The Danish championships took place without the title favorite and Denmark's undisputed number one, world number one Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour. This was due to work on a new freestyle routine.

If she is going to dance on the world championship floor, then she wants to do it as perfectly as possible: Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour is still working on a new freestyle. Due to the recalculation of the level of difficulty (DOD), the Dane decided to redesign the freestyle that she hopes to present in the World Championship final in Aachen.

Together with her trainer Kyra Kyrklund, she is in the process of creating a new sequence of lessons, the “floor plan”. It is presented to the judges during the ride so that they can correctly evaluate these combinations and the highest possible score for the sequence shown.

New freestyle routine

Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour would like to ride this freestyle in public for the first time at the Falsterbo Horse Show from July 4-12, 2026. Freestyle, the Hanoverian mare, is already 17 years old. With the Fidermark daughter, she has already achieved more than 90 percent in freestyle several times in the past six months, most recently in Herning. According to the rider, she wants to conserve her strength accordingly.

“I am thrilled to be back at the Falsterbo Horse Show and I am very excited to present our new freestyle for the first time. I love competing in Sweden and I believe this will be the perfect preparation for the World Equestrian Games later this summer,” said Laudrup-Dufour in a press release from the Swedish show.

News from Denmark also concerns Nanna Skodborg Merrald, who is no longer employed at Blue Hors Stud.

The new degree of difficulty (DOD) in freestyle competently explained

In the episode “Audience with the Freestyle Pope”, the newly calculated Degree of Difficulty (DOD) is one of the topics. It is intended to ensure that harmony is rated more highly than an unsuccessful accumulation of maximum difficulties that make the pair appear overwhelmed in the arena.
