It was a course that obviously suited riders with an Alpine background. Victory in the Nations’ Cup in St. Gallen went to Switzerland with Jason Smith and Picobello van’t Roasakker, who had one of the two double clear rounds of the entire show jumping competition. The man, whose less Swiss name is due to his place of birth, had a total of nine penalty points. Smith was born in Scotland and rode with Dietmar Gugler.
Picobello van’t Roosakker has previously ridden under Steve Guerdat, among others. Smith has been riding him since 2024 and last year they both finished fifth in the Rolex Grand Prix of Geneva.
Alongside Smith, Martin Fuchs and Lorde (8/0), Alain Jufer/Dante MM (4/12) and Steve Guerdat and Iashin Sitte competed for the Swiss. The latter delivered the second-best result for Switzerland with four penalty points in the first round and one time fault in the second round.
Austria and Great Britain complete the podium in St. Gallen
Second place went to the team from Austria, in which Katharina Rhomberg and Cuma went clear twice. The team scored a total of 16 penalty points.
It was a mixed bag for the British riders, who had two riders without a knockdown in the second round, but both finished too slowly. Ben Maher and Catelly finished on two faults, Adrian Whiteway and Chacco Volo on one. Team Great Britain scored a total of 17 points.
Germany in fifth place
Fourth place went to the USA (20). Finally, fifth place went to the Germans. Marcus Ehning and Coolio and René Dittmer and Cody(click here for a portrait of the show jumper) delivered the most consistent performances: Both had one down each in the rounds. Sandra Auffarth and Quirici, who had four penalties in the first round, were responsible for the scratch result in the second round with five knockdowns.
Hansi Dreher and Elysium collected 20 penalty points in the first round. However, the grey did better than his team-mates in the second round: he cleared all the poles and was just a little too slow, so that two penalty points had to be recorded for exceeding the time limit. In total, the Germans scored 22 penalty points.
