Marcus Ehning's Sabrina is no longer with us
The Ehning Stable mourns the loss of a longtime companion

She looked like the female version of her sire, Sandro Boy, and, like him, spent her twilight years at the Ehning stable: Sabrina.
Photo: sportfotos-lafrentz.de Sabrina lived to be 27 years old. She spent practically her entire life at the Ehning Stables in Borken. In the beginning, it was Marcus Ehning’s younger brother Johannes who competed the Bavarian Sandro Boy-Landadel daughter—bred by Josef Estendorfer—in show jumping classes. He rode her at the Bundeschampionat and also in her first international appearances on the Youngster Tour.

. Later, team world champion Marcus Ehning took the reins and, riding the mare, earned nearly 800,000 euros in prize money. The pair won numerous Grand Prix events—twice in Paris, in Bordeaux, and in London—as well as the Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany at the Dortmund Indoor Tournament (which no longer exists), the Paderborn Grand Prix, and the Frankfurt Grand Prix.
They also won the World Cup show jumping event in London in 2012, among other victories. Sabrina accompanied Marcus Ehning to the World Cup Finals twice, in 2011 and 2012.
In 2015, Sabrina was given a ceremonial send-off from the sport.
A Career in Breeding
After her competitive career, Sabrina joined the broodmare herd at Stall Ehning, which also included his former successful mares Küchengirl and Anka. Sabrina has a daughter, Lina—an eight-year-old daughter of Monte Bellini—who competes internationally at the S level.
Lina is the oldest foal. She also has a full sister named Larina, who is from the same crop. In 2019, a colt by Plot Blue was born and named Petrus. In 2020, another colt by Cornet’s Stern named Clos Vougeot Z was born. In 2021, the filly Oquina by Cornet Obolensky was born, and in 2022, a daughter of Comme il faut named Carmina Z was born. Just last year, Sabrina had a colt by Chacco-Blue named Cesar.
The Ehnings even have grandchildren of hers in their stable.
