Photo: Brüske-Medien Actually, only those pairs that have qualified for the Piaff-Förderpreis stages at the inspection in mid-March are admitted. However, there has always been the possibility of admitting other pairs if they have the right prospects. Rose Oatley is now making use of this option.
As the FN confirmed at the request of EQUI PAGES, the 19-year-old will be competing at the Maimarkt show with her new addition Alive and Kicking as a “lateral entrant” in the Piaff-Förderpreis. She received permission to compete after winning the Intermédiaire II at the Maas J. Hell dressage show in Klein Offenseth last weekend.
Junior national coach Hans-Heinrich Meyer zu Strohen had traveled to Schleswig-Holstein especially to watch Rose Oatley’s performance with the Westphalian mare.
It was the first tournament for the U21 European Champion with the All at Once daughter, who she took over from Charlotte Dujardin a few weeks ago.
Déjà vu
There had already been a very similar scenario in 2025. Rose had actually only been scheduled to take part in the Piaff-Förderpreis with Huan, her mother’s Grand Prix horse. In Mannheim, however, she not only brought Huan to the start, but also the mare Feldrose. The now 14-year-old Hanoverian mare by Feuerspiel had been trained up to Grand Prix level by Finnish Olympic rider Emma Kanerva and Rose Oatley was given the opportunity to ride her and her later European Championship partner Don Domingo after Kanerva and horse owner Gert Saborowski parted ways.
However, Mannheim remained the only Piaff-Förderpreis station in which Rose Oatley took part that season. Feldrose now has a new rider. Huan has not competed since then.
