"Marbach Spring" is a new joint auction of the Main and State Stud Marbach and the Baden-Württemberg Horse Breeding Association, where Michael Jung, among others, found what he was looking for.

What is new at the “Marbach Spring” is not only the event as such, but also the opportunity to buy immediately. Until May 1, interested parties had the opportunity to secure their dream horse at a fixed price before the auction began. The fact that this was used is shown, among other things, by the top price. A “dressage-loving family from Baden-Württemberg” secured a six-year-old Danone-Goldberg son named Dango Rubin – exhibited by Hendrik Niehe in Sieversdorf – for 43,000 euros before he went into the auction. This option was used for two other horses.

Marbach youngsters for young people

Eventing Olympic champion Michael Jung has had the best experiences with horses that have grown up on the pastures of the Marbach Principal and State Stud. After all, his superstar Sam FBW also comes from here – albeit from a different breed. And Sam’s sire Stan the Man xx ate his oats in the Marbach stables. These are two attributes that also apply to the three-year-old for whom Michael Jung was awarded the contract at the “Marbach Spring”.

He was able to bring the Württemberg stallion Dottore Gratiano by Doctor Blue-Stanton to Horb for 16,750 euros. From a purely genetic point of view, the chestnut could be the next Nations Cup winner on the young horse course in a few years’ time. He is a full brother to the highly talented Doctor Snow out of Smilla by Stanton-Escudo-Salieri, who in turn is a half-sister to Million Ways, who was also licensed. The sire Doctor Blue received his basic training at Marbach State Stud, but is now jumping successfully internationally with Sophie Hinners.

Auction conclusion

The 21 riding horses in the auction were sold for an average of 14,618 euros. The total turnover was 286,750 euros. There was one pony on offer that fetched 9,000 euros. The Verband spoke of “a good result, which is basically satisfactory, especially in view of the current difficult economic situation”. Five horses went abroad, two each to France and Switzerland, one to Italy.
