This weekend, the crème de la crème of young
eventing horses
will once again compete in the classic event in Lion d’Angers. We already provided a detailed overview yesterday of who will represent Germany at the World Championships for Young Eventing Horses. The fact that this approach works was most recently demonstrated at the “real” World Championships in Herning, where several alumni from Lion d’Angers competed.
The starter lists and results are available here.
Dressage World Cup Kicks Off in Herning
What Oslo was for show jumpers last weekend, Herning is for dressage riders this weekend: the start of the World Cup season. Representing Germany are: last year’s finalist Moritz Treffinger with Cadeau Noir, Dr. Svenja Kämper-Meyer with Amanyara M, and Dorothee Schneider, who is looking to make her mark on the international scene once again.
For the World Cup tour, the champion rider is bringing along the seasoned First Romance, aka “Roman,” who returned to competition this season in top form after a lengthy break. She’s also saddling up her 11-year-old rising star, Karlijn V., for the CDI3* tour.
In the CDI3* tour, Schneider will face off against Helen Langehanenberg on Straight Horse Ascenzione, among others; Langehanenberg competed in her first tournament since April last weekend in Ankum and placed second in the Grand Prix with a score of 70.933 percent. Cosima von Fircks will ride Finest Ampere, and U25 European Champion Rose Oatley is looking forward to a major debut. With her top mare Alive and Kicking She plans to compete internationally for the first time in the senior division. The 19-year-old proved just last weekend at the Burg Cup Qualifying Tournament in Guxhagen-Dörnhagen She showed her skills there, where she had actually only intended to “get some practice in,” but instead qualified two horses for Frankfurt.
There’s also a U25 race in Herning. Representing Germany in this race is Marie Sohler riding Queolito.
The dressage competition in Herning promises to be exciting, in part thanks to the performances of the two world No. 1s, Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour and Freestyle.
Show Jumping in Herning
Show jumping
is also taking place in Herning. André Thieme is the most prominent German competitor in the three-star tournament. Also competing are, among others, the Rüder father and son, siblings Enno and Laura Klaphake, and many others.
Focus on young talent in show jumping—riders can also compete in several age groups in Herning, with Germany particularly well represented among the U25 riders, including Clara Blau, Tjade Carstensen, Naomi Himmelreich, Emilia Löser, Max Paschertz, Magnus Schmidt, Tomma Thiesen, and many others.

Major Show Jumping League in Tryon, featuring the No. 1-
Tryon is the fifth stop on the highly lucrative Major Show Jumping League (MSJL) tour in the Americas. From Germany, Junior European Team Champion Tony Stormann will ride alongside Olympic champion Christian Kukuk and world No. 1 Richard Vogel.
Starting lists and results will be available here in due time.
France, Spain, Italy—it doesn’t matter, as long as there’s sunshine!
For those who don’t want to or can’t compete indoors in Herning or on another continent, this weekend offers opportunities in St. Tropez (France), Gorla Minore (Italy), and Oliva (Spain), among other places, to soak up the last rays of sunshine at the CSI3* level.
In St. Tropez, Paulina Doll and Carola Wegener will be competing alongside Kendra Claricia Brinkop, Gerrit Nieberg, and Philipp Schulze Topphoff.
Italy is the destination for, among others, former world champion Simone Blum and her husband Hansi, as well as Pia Reich and Max Weishaupt.
Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann is a regular at the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour in Oliva Nova, and this weekend she’ll be joined by Marc Bettinger, Nicola Pohl, Henrike Ostermann, and Nina Piasecki, among others.
Riesenbeck International Makes a Spectacular Comeback
What Ankum is to dressage riders, Riesenbeck is to show jumpers—a tournament that’s often used to develop young talent or to make a smooth return to the sport after a long break, under ideal conditions and without all the fanfare.
For Jana Wargers, it’s the latter this weekend. The new mom got a taste of competition again today for the first time since the birth of her son Louis on July 7, and she immediately turned to her superstar mare Dorette OLD. During Wargers’ break, Dorette had been kept in shape by her Ashford Farm colleague Marlon Zanotelli. The pair even competed at the World Championships in Aachen, representing Zanotelli’s home country of Brazil. However, their performance there was rather unlucky. Things went smoothly, though, for Dorette and her regular rider in Riesenbeck: no faults over the jumps, and only three time penalty points in their first 1.40-meter jumping competition in months.
You can find all the results from Riesenbeck here.
