The well-deserved, beaming champion of the U25 German Championship in Riesenbeck is Britt Roth

What a season for 24-year-old Britt Roth! In Mannheim, she performed so well with her nine-year-old Holsteiner, Jeffrey—a son of Comme il faut—(winning the qualifier for Germany’s U25 Jumping Cup) that she received permission from the national coach to compete in the German Women’s Show Jumping Championship in Balve. There, they not only made it to the final but also jumped their way to the silver medal. The success was so unexpected that the family arrived in the Sauerland from Rhineland-Palatinate only gradually.

In Riesenbeck, however, the pair performed so well from day one that the fan club had plenty of time to set out in good time. The difficulty of the three competitions increased day by day, as did the performances of Britt Roth and Jeffrey. They placed third in the speed jumping, second in the second class over 1.50, and today they had a double clear round, won the competition, and didn’t have a single knockdown throughout the entire championship.

Roth summed it up: “I’m actually pretty level-headed; that wasn’t really the problem today. I was clearly focused, and we had one goal today—and we were able to achieve it.” A goal following a whole string of successes—“each weekend tops the next,” as Roth put it. What’s next for her? “Jeffrey is going to take a little break for now, before we tackle our next big goal in mid-August: the final of Germany’s U25 Jumping Cup in Aachen.”

Silver and Bronze

Paul Ercken (24) and his Westphalian horse Apatche-H by Aganix du Seigneur—who is also just nine years old—also remained faultless until the very end. This secured them the silver medal, though they also benefited from a mistake made by their toughest competitor in the battle for the medals.

That was Magnus Schmidt riding Carl Gustav. They finished sixth on the first day and fourth on the second, putting them firmly on track for a medal. In today’s final, a jumping error in the first round put the 22-year-old—who had previously placed fourth at the European Pony Championships—on edge once again, but in the second round he finished without any faults—bronze!

Finalists for Germany’s U25 Jumping Cup

In addition to the DM decision, the competition in Riesenbeck also determined the final qualifying spots for the finals of Germany’s U25 Jumping Cup, which will be held as part of the World Championships in Aachen.

Since Britt Roth and Magnus Schmidt had already secured their spots in the final, Sören Suppert and Beeke Carstensen moved up alongside Paul Ercken. Two additional spots went to Felizitas Judith and Maren Hoffmann, who finished the German U25 Championship in eighth and tenth place, respectively.
