What a weekend for Tom Schewe at the World Cup tournament in Morocco—three main events, two top-three finishes, and one victory.

Things went well for Tom Schewe in Morocco this weekend! As early as Friday, he and Lester secured 11th place in the qualifying round for today’s World Cup show jumping event, earning a spot among the prize winners thanks to the fastest four-fault round. The winner was Colombian rider Santiago Diaz Ortega on the Holsteiner Jump for Joy, while Maximilian Lill secured fourth place on Kommandant by Comme il faut, who is also registered in Holstein.

Yesterday was the big moment for Schewe and his 10-year-old KWPN gelding Lester by Eldorado vd Zeshoek. In the day’s highest-prize-money show jumping competition—a 1.55-meter class with a jump-off—they prevailed against five competitors in a race against the clock and secured the victory.

For 28-year-old Schewe, this was the first five-star victory of his life: “This victory is a reward for my entire team. They deserve it just as much as I do. We’ve come so close to victory so many times—we’ve had fast jump-offs, but often ended them with four penalty points. Today was our day. It’s my first victory at the five-star level. Since I only competed at this level for the first time a year ago in Aachen, this success means something very special to me. It was also my first time participating in the ‘Morocco Royal Tour.’ I’m taking home unforgettable memories—not only because of this result, but also thanks to the outstanding organization, which I’d like to highlight in particular.”

World Cup – Taking It Up a Notch

While stablemate Lester took over the work, Schewe’s top horse, Congress Blue, was able to conserve his energy for today’s World Cup show jumping competition over 1.60 meters with two rounds. In the first round, the pair had one knockdown but still managed to finish among the top eleven, who were allowed to ride the course again. They didn’t make that same mistake a second time. And since only two pairs managed to go clear twice, the result was enough for fourth place for Schewe and his nine-year-old OS gelding by Congress.

The two riders who scored double zeros were, on the one hand, Belgium’s former European team champion and Olympic bronze medalist Jérôme Guery, riding the 10-year-old Belgian sport horse stallion Kiliman Sitte by Comme il faut, and, on the other hand, Britain’s Chloe Aston riding Akito Von Rocherath Z, an 11-year-old son of Arko III. They thus took first and second place.

Simon Delestre (FRA) on Golden Boy DK finished third. Like Schewe and Congress Blue, the pair had one knockdown in the first round but remained faultless after that. However, they were faster than the German duo.
