Munich was the first venue for a Derby Stars von Morgen qualifier in 2026. It was a home win for Rudolf Widmann with a horse that was seen as a three-year-old at the Bundeschampionat, but was quiet for a long time afterwards, and today left a former world champion, among others, behind.

Rudolf Widmann competes for the Munich Riding Academy, so Munich-Riem is more or less a home match for him. He knew how to take advantage of this this weekend with his ten-year-old Oldenburg stallion Romantic Prinz OLD. The pair won both the Intermédiaire II as a warm-up test and the actual competition, the short Grand Prix (S7).

Romantic Prinz is a dark bay, clearly influenced by his sire Rock Forever I, who was presented as a three-year-old by Stefanie Ahlert for the Büscher-Konermann stallion station. The pair took fifth place in the final of the Bundeschampionat with a score of 8.6, after which Romantic Prinz was quiet for a long time.

In 2024 he appeared again, this time with Rudolf Widmann and already at Intermédiaire II level. Last year, they competed in several Intermédiaire II tests at regional level in the southern German border region. They were victorious six times, finishing second once, third twice and fourth once. They always achieved results of around 70 percent. This weekend they were able to clearly surpass that. They won the Intermédiaire II with 72.588 percent and the S7 with 73.377 percent. They were the only pair to break the 70 percent mark in the deciding test.

The other places

Jessica Schneeberger took second place with her ten-year-old, self-trained Sansibar JS, a half-Trakehner by Schwarzgold-Dr. Jackson D, who is also registered with the Oldenburg Verband. He scratched the 70 percent mark with 69.649 percent.

After coming last in the Piaff-Förderpreis qualifier and not placing yesterday either, third place with 68.465 percent was a particularly big success for Henri Schamburg and his new star, the former World Champion of Young Dressage Horses and Bundeschampion Lordswood Dancing Diamond. This also made Henri the best U25 rider in this qualifier, as the series is intended for both young horses and young riders.
