Today, Equestrian Sport Germany, better known as the FN, also commented on the plans of the municipality of Reutlingen regarding the horse tax.

The facts are now known. On April 26, the Reutlingen municipal council decided to introduce a package to improve the budget, including the introduction of a horse tax.

Like the Baden-Württemberg State Equestrian Sports Association, the Baden-Württemberg Horse Breeding Association, the German Sport Horse Working Group and the State Farmers’ Association, the FN also “strongly criticizes” this decision.

Call for resistance

“We will continue to do everything we can to avert the horse tax in Reutlingen,” emphasizes Thomas Ungruhe, Head of the Equestrian Sports Development team.

The introduction of the tax in Reutlingen would have a nationwide signal effect. That is why it must be prevented at all costs and support from both the equestrian scene and the agricultural sector is crucial for this. The latter would also be directly affected by a drop in the number of stallholders, for example. For local horse businesses, the tax could mean economic ruin.

Sign the petition now!

We must take a stand against this. One option that anyone can use is the online petition, which we have already reported on and which can be accessed here.

Although such a petition has no legally binding effect, it does exert strong public and political pressure, according to the FN. Formal petitions to the municipal council carry more weight according to the Baden-Württemberg municipal constitution, but must be submitted by residents of the municipality.

Protest works

Past experience has shown that it is possible to successfully defend oneself against political decisions. As the FN reports, more than 500 German municipalities have discussed the horse tax in recent years. However, it was ultimately only decided in three Hessian municipalities and is only actually levied in one municipality, Schlangenbad.
