Tomma Thiesen and Django Riff outperformed Olympic champions, former world No. 1s, and world and European champions in the CSI3* Grand Prix in Herning.

Nine pairs had advanced to the jump-off of the Herning Grand Prix over 1.50 meters (CSI3*). Among them were former Olympic team champion, European champion, and World Cup winner Kevin Staut; former world No. 1 Peder Fredericson, riding his current top horse; and German women’s show jumping champion Laura Klaphake. And Tomma Thiesen, who celebrated her 20th birthday in July. Riding her nine-year-old Holsteiner Django Riff—a son of Diarado bred by Frank Neumann and owned by Tomma’s boss, Hinerk Köhlbrandt—she was the first pair to enter the course. Backing a third-place finish in the Riesenbeck Grand Prix two weeks earlier, the pair confidently swept through the course and set the bar with a clear round in 35.69 seconds. None of their prominent competitors would manage to beat that time.

Kevin Staut and his promising young horse Hermes des Vesquerie—also a nine-year-old son of Vigo d’Arsouilles—came in a close second, finishing exactly three-tenths of a second behind Tomma and Django Riff. German champion Laura Klaphake rode her top horse, Quizano van’t Merelsnest, to third place with a time of 36.51 seconds, finishing ahead of her brother Enno and Chacvarlon PS, who clocked 37.16 seconds.

These four pairs had remained clear. Sweden’s Marcus Westergren was faster than Tomma (35.3) on the Zangersheider mare Fellaini de Liebri Z, but the risk he had to take cost him a knockdown, leaving him in fifth place. His compatriot Peder Fredricson, riding SV Vroom de la Pomme Z—who, among other achievements, won the 2025 Mannheim Grand Prix—followed in sixth place (4/36.88).
