Photo: Pferd International/Hubert Fischer As usual, the FEI competition calendar lists the CDI5*/3*/1* and CSI3*/1*/CSIYH1*—better known as Pferd International—in Munich from May 6 to 9, 2027. However, the regional magazine“Bayerns Pferde” reported on the sidelines of the state championships last weekend—which, like Pferd International, took place at the Olympic facilities in Munich-Riem—that the 2027 tournament may have to be canceled.
The report cites the managing director of Hippo Veranstaltungs GmbH, the company responsible for Pferd International. According to the report, CEO Jürgen Blum—the father of 2018 World Show Jumping Champion Simone Blum—said that the 2027 tournament “probably” won’t take place, as the search for sponsors is proving increasingly difficult.
When we contacted Hippo Veranstaltungs GmbH, we received the following response: “Unfortunately, we are unable to release any public information on this matter at this time. An official announcement regarding the next steps is planned for later this summer. We therefore ask for your continued patience.”
The email’s footer features a “Save the Date” note alongside the poster for this year’s Pferd International event, which took place in May.
Two Five-Star CDI Events in One Weekend
Pferd International is a truly traditional tournament. Since 1983, a tournament accompanied by a trade show has been held at the approximately 30-hectare facility in Munich-Riem. In addition to dressage and show jumping, working equitation has also become established here in recent years.
For dressage riders, Munich had previously been a stop on the Nuremberg Burg Cup circuit and a stop on the “Derby Stars of Tomorrow” tour—in addition to the major Grand Prix competitions.
The tournament usually takes place on Ascension Day weekend, alongside the German Show Jumping and Dressage Derby in Hamburg. That worked well for years. The five-star dressage riders went to Munich, and the five-star show jumpers went to Hamburg. But since Matthias Alexander Rath took over the Hamburg Derby, it has also become a CDI5* event and now offers a qualifier for the Louisdor Prize for young Grand Prix horses.
