Three horses at the German Championships in Balve were sent into quarantine because Benjamin Werndl's Quick Decision has a fever.

This is a precautionary measure, emphasizes Pferdesport Deutschland. “The measure is a preventative measure to protect other horses competing.”

Benjamin Werndl’s Quick Decision was diagnosed with a fever today. As a result, both he and his box neighbors were sent into quarantine from the stable tents at the German Championships in Balve. This was decided in consultation between the rider and the German team veterinarian Dr. Anna Rötting.

The ten-year-old Quick Decision only had a fever and no other symptoms. The two other horses that were isolated with him are Times Kismet, owned by Werndl’s sister Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, and Mondrian, owned by Lisa Müller. Neither has a fever or any other symptoms of illness. None of the three horses will take part in tomorrow’s Grand Prix Special.

UPDATE

The swab samples from the three horses have now been analyzed using a rapid test. According to the results, herpes, influenza and druse can be ruled out as the cause of the fever.
