Julia Krajewski Wins the CCI4*-S in Strzegom

Julia Krajewski took her 2023 German Champion, the now 12-year-old Selle Français gelding Ero de Cantraie, to the CCI4*-S in Strzegom and, thanks to a clear jumping round and one of the fastest cross-country runs, moved up from fifth place after the dressage (33.1) to the top of the competition. With 4.4 time penalties added, this resulted in a victory with 37.5 penalty points.

Belgium’s Lara de Liederkerke-Meier and her 10-year-old Diarado son, Quintus, started the cross-country as the leaders. With 28.9 penalty points, they had already posted the best dressage score, and even four time faults in the jumping course did nothing to change their lead. However, the ten time faults in the cross-country did—they finished in second place with 39.3 penalty points.

In third place was another Belgian rider, Tine Magnus, riding Dia van het Lichterveld Z—this time a direct daughter of Diamant de Semilly—with a score of 41.3.

Former National Champion Is Now a Four-Star Horse

Calvin Böckmann’s biggest hope goes by the name of Kasparow FRH; he is eight years young and is descended from Karajan and Diacontinus (breeder: Friedrich Thiesse), was named Bundeschampion two years ago after undergoing surgery for colic, and is now a four-star horse. The gelding has made fantastic progress this year, competing in three CCI3* events and winning them all. This weekend marked his four-star debut in the division specifically designed for eight- to nine-year-old horses, and Kasparow proved more than up to the challenge.

After the dressage, the pair was still in fifth place with 35 penalty points. But on the show jumping course, the grandson of Kannan gave it his all, and although he had 8.4 time penalties in the cross-country, he was still among the fastest. A total of 43.4 penalty points ultimately secured him second place—and the best result ever for an eight-year-old horse.

In fact, the only riders to do better were Lara de Liederkerke-Meier and her nine-year-old Holsteiner mare Call me Senorita by Charleston, who had already taken the lead after the dressage with 32.8 penalty points and finished with 42.4 penalty points after time penalties in the show jumping and cross-country.

Felix Etzel took third place riding Benoit Bold, a son of Bonaparte AA who was also born in 2017. The Hanoverian gelding had one knockdown on the course but was the fastest in the cross-country section. He finished with 44.7 penalty points.

World champion Michael Jung made it into the top five with the nine-year-old Perseverance Funky Famous Flamborghini by Szenario, a mare who, like all Perseverance horses, is owned by Dutchwoman Madeleine Brugman, who has been working with Jung since this year. For the mare, it was her third four-star appearance and her third without a jumping fault in the cross-country—though it was also her third with a knockdown in the show jumping course, resulting in a fifth-place finish overall (50.3).

Riding another young horse, the eight-year-old Holsteiner mare Cloud Nine by Clarksville, Michael Jung won the CCI2*-S.

Julia Krajewski also had other horses with her in Poland, including the eight-year-old Selle Français gelding Intouchable Tonic by Upsilon, who won the CCI3*-S ahead of Krajewski’s World Championship reserve horse, Tullabeg Platinum.
