The first decisions at the CCI Kronenberg have been made and one of them was a great success for Calvin Böckmann right at the start of the green season.

At the end of 2023, Calvin Böckmann took over the then five-year-old Hanoverian Karajan son Kasparow FRH. In the same season, the gelding had performed sensational rounds at the Bundeschampionat with his trainer Antonia von Baath and was able to pick up seamlessly with Böckmann. Among other things, the pair became champions in Warendorf a year later. The pair have placed well several times in international eventing competitions, but have not yet been victorious. Until today.

Kronenberg was the fifth three-star event for the now eight-year-old gelding. After finishing in the bottom four times, he rounded off the 2025 bush season with a fantastic fourth place in the CCI3*-L in Strzegom (POL). The pair were able to do the same this weekend in the CCI3*S in Kronenberg: They won the test with their dressage score of 26 minus points.

Second place went to the British Olympic rider Kitty King on the ten-year-old Irish rider Renkum Jitterbug (27.2) ahead of Felix Etzel and his Trakehner stallion Polartanz, who also achieved their dressage result with 27.8 minus points – as did all the pairs in the first six places.

Olympic rider Christoph Wahler and his now ten-year-old new acquisition from France, Gainsbourg de Bedon, had their first three-star outing. They were also pleased to have finished with their dressage result. The 31.3 minus points that the judges gave the Mylord Carthago son for his performance in the dressage arena were enough for eleventh place out of 100 (!) participants.

British triple in the CCI4*-S

All competitions in Kronenberg were well attended. There were also 72 pairs competing in the CCI4*-S, ten of which did not finish the test, including the CCI5* winners from Luhmühlen, Lara de Liederkerke-Meier and Hooney d’Arville, after a fall.

From Germany, only Arne Bergendahl and his bundle of energy Luthien NRW had dared to tackle the four stars, and Lucy confirmed the decision with two rounds without an obstacle fault. In the end, the pair finished 32nd.

The competition was dominated by the British. The team Olympic champions and European Championship bronze medallists Tom McEwen and JL Dublin won with their dressage score of 23.5 minus points, a start-to-finish victory.

The second to fourth places were also taken by pairs with white vests from the course and cross, led by Gemma Stevens on Flash Cooley (27.3), followed by Bubby Upton on her 16-year-old Holstein veteran Cola by Catoki by a tenth.
