20926 Trakehner National Show: High Scores for Many Approved Stallions; Hannu Haakon Receives Two 10.0s

He was the horse with the highest scores at this year’s Trakehner National Tournament: Hannu Haakon ND, a three-year-old colt, son of Scaglietti, out of a full sister to the sire’s sire, Helium by Millennium. In the qualifying round for the riding horse championship for three-year-old Trakehner stallions, he had already received a 10.0 for his walk. He didn’t receive that score in the final, where he was awarded a 9.0. However, this time his canter was graded a 10.0. His trot, rideability, and conformation were each rated 9.0. All in all, that added up to a 9.2—the highest score among all riding horses.

Discovered as a foal in Münster-Handorf

The “ND” in his name is thanks to the woman who bought this stunning black horse at auction three years ago at the Bundesturnier for 16,000 euros: Nicole Derlin. A worthwhile investment.

The second reserve champion of the 2025 licensing was presented by Cecilie Hedegaard of Denmark. The black horse has since been approved for breeding in Hanover. He is also registered for breeding in Denmark, where he was born, and in Sweden.

Another 10.0

Another 10.0 was awarded in this championship final—specifically for the trot of the winning stallion Eichenkönig, presented by Beatrice Aturi for Gestüt Sprehe. The Kentucky son also scored well in the canter (9.0), but in the walk, as in the qualifiers, he had to settle for a 7.0. Rideability (8.5) and conformation (9.0) ultimately brought his final score to 8.7.

“Unparalleled” truly lives up to its name

In the three-year-old fillies and geldings class, the filly Ohne Gleichen won by a margin of 0.7 (!) points. The daughter of the stallion Freiherr von Stein was presented by Sophie Luisa Duen. She received an 8.5 for trot, walk, and rideability. Canter and conformation were rated 9.0. Second place went to Le Lys, a gelding by Olymp-Rheinklang, presented by his owner, Jana von Rönne. Le Lys received an 8.0 for trot and conformation; canter and walk were rated 8.5; points were deducted for rideability: 7.0—resulting in a final score of 8.0. Third place went to Sarah König, who presented the mare Tanzspiel. The Easy Game daughter achieved a total score of 7.5, tying her for third place with the mare Utopia by Preussen Party, whom Antonia Pietsch had brought to the final.

Complete Horse: Santalinah

Among the four-year-old mares and geldings, Santalinah by Santo Scuro was unbeatable: Riden by Lydia Camp-Riebau, the mare received an 8.5 in all categories; only in conformation did she have to settle for an 8.0, for a final score of 8.4.

A tenth of a point behind: Dichter Easy, presented by Markus von Holdt. The Easy Game son received an 8.5 for his trot, as well as for his conformation. His canter was rated 8.0, his walk 7.5, and his rideability 9.0. Third place went to Supertime WH with a score of 8.0. The mare, presented by Marel Flunkert, received an 8.0 for trot, rideability, and conformation. The judges awarded her a 7.5 for canter and an 8.5 for walk.

Deliberately retaining the traditional format for riding horses

The Trakehner breeders had deliberately decided not to adopt the new format as it is to be implemented at the Bundeschampionat. Breeding Director and Managing Director Neel-Heinrich Schoof feels vindicated following the Bundesturnier. “For example, seeing the stallions once again without saddles and hearing the impressions of guest rider Mareike Peckholz—the audience really appreciated all of that.”

Duo in the Four-Year-Old Colt Final

There were only two participants among the stallions born in 2022. The winner was the 2024 Stallion of the Year, Havertz v Blanc Pain, ridden by Beatrice Arturi. His scores: Trot: 8.5, canter: 9.0, walk: 7.0, rideability: 8.3, and conformation: 8.5. His final score was 8.26. This put him ahead of Pagani by Millennium, presented by Deborah Schumacher, who received a final score of 7.96.

Five-Year-Old Dressage Championship: Red Bull Champion

Twenty pairs competed for the championship title among five-year-old Trakehner dressage horses. In the end, the victory went to Austria. Ulrike Prunthaller won the class with the gelding Earl Grey by Le Rouge, earning a score of 8.1. The gelding comes from Gestüt Murtal, the stud farm established in Styria by Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz. The champion’s dam once competed at the Bundesturnier herself—not as a riding horse, but as an auction foal.

Coming in behind him was the licensed stallion Zavier by Millennium. The dark bay had already been runner-up in the riding horse class last year under Severo Jurado Lopez. And this time, too, he took second place with a score of 7.8. Close behind him was Kap Verde, a son of Helium out of an Ivernel dam, the 2023 Champion Stallion. He was presented by Ann.Katrin Lachemann.

Stallions Lead the Way Among Dressage Horses—But a Seven-Year-Old Filly Takes the Championship

It was a close contest in the championship for six- and seven-year-old Trakehner dressage horses. In the Class M dressage test, it was a race among the stallions that decided the podium. With a score of 8.52, the seven-year-old Sprehe stallion Kenneth by Millennium, ridden by Beatrice Arturi, took the win. Close behind, with a score of 8.5, was Leonie Bramall riding the also seven-year-old Goldfieber by Le Rouge. Le Rouge, once a champion stallion and successful up to Grand Prix level, had a high success rate among his offspring in the placings.

However, the competition rules stipulated that Test No. 23—an S*-level dressage test on a snaffle bit—was also eligible as a qualifying test for the Trakehner Dressage Horse Championship for seven-year-olds. And if a seven-year-old could make a name for itself here, that placement counted more than the one in the Class M dressage horse class. That’s exactly how it turned out. The mare Harfenspiel by Ivanhoe-Cadeau, bred and owned by Gestüt Murtal, was not only the best seven-year-old; but with a score of 70.278 percent, she was also the winner of the class under Ulrike Prunthaller, thereby edging out her competitors from the Class M dressage test in the race for the title of Dressage Horse Champion.

The best six-year-old in this field, with a score of 8.48, was the stallion Rockingham by Saint Cyr, presented by Moritz Gehrmann.

Podium Finishes

Some of the show jumping champions were determined in a joint competition. For example, Tio’s Tiago by Cook du Midour AA, ridden by Sophie Leube, needed only a score of 8.1 and a fourth-place finish in an L-class show jumping competition to take home the title of Champion of the five-year-old Trakehners. The gray stallion was named best show jumping stallion at the 2023 licensing and has already qualified for the National Eventing Championship. In fact, the pair delivered the highest-scored round, an 8.6. Only one knockdown caused their score to drop to 8.1. The second-best five-year-old, the licensed Athos, presented by Andreas Ostholt, also has an Anglo-Arabian sire, L’Elu de Dun AA.

Andreas Ostholt’s Show Jumping Champion

Among the six- and seven-year-old show jumpers, a former eventing champion took the lead: Andreas Ostholt rode Fly High by Asagao xx and earned the highest score of 8.7. Behind him in second place was Sweet Waters Octavius, who is one year younger, by Ziethen, ridden by Hermann Ostendarp (8.5), who was also the champion of the six-year-olds. The third-place finisher in this class was also six years old: Friederike Plagmann rode Herbstfee by Hirtentanz. Her score: 8.2.
