The Bavarian Mare Show took place in Munich over the weekend. These are the DSP champion mares bred in Bavaria.

70 mares had qualified for the 2026 Bavarian Mare Show; eleven were admitted to the final ring.

The jury—which included Dr. Axel Brockmann, the Cell State Stable Master, as a guest judge—selected the three-year-old Damaschino daughter Karamba, bred and owned by Josef Zunterer in Mittenwald, as the champion mare of the Bavarian DSP mares.

The dam, Kleopatra, is a daughter of Zackman M and Rivero II who already gave birth to a colt by Damaschino in 2022. The direct maternal line has produced, among others, Radcliffe, a state-approved stallion from Schwaiganger. The Rivero II son is a full brother to the grandmother of the newly crowned champion mare.

Speaking of Schwaiganger—the Reserve Champion, Sakarina by Zakaria-Hibiskus-Boston, who is also a three-year-old, was born at the Bavarian State Stud, and she is still at home there.

Among the mares bred with a focus on dressage, there was also a second reserve champion: Fortuna by For Romance I-Don Diamond-Legendaer I. She was bred by Andreas Stöckle from Unterthingau and shown in Munich.

Winning Mares in Show Jumping

The four-year-old Ehawee, by Colestus-Clinton I-Pilot, left the Hufeisenplatz as the best show jumping mare. Otto Fischer Sr. from Haarbach is her proud breeder and owner.

Arizona, a daughter of the former Bundeschampion and now internationally successful Arezzo Man out of a Stedinger-Concetto I dam, was named reserve champion of the show jumping mares. The Stutenmilchgestüt Schwarz GbR in Mammendorf is both the breeder and owner.

Va Bene Twice

The Wadenspanner stallion Va Bene was the only sire to have two daughters in the final ring. One of them was named the weekend’s movement champion: the four-year-old Dorabena S, out of a dam by Florestano-Ricardo. The “S” stands for the Seidl family, breeders and owners from Wolfsegg.

The second Va Bene daughter in the final race was Rudolf Pichlmeier’s Elypse, out of a Cosimo B dam.

The other mares in the final round:

  • Charlize by Diathletico-Viscount (Breeder/Owner: Anton Schindele Jr., Unterthingau)

  • Wilhelmina v. Zenetti-Best of Gold (Breeder/Owner: Stefan Weyer, Langerringen)

  • Grace Romania vs. Bohemian-Lordanos (Breeder/Owner: Rudolf Zellner, Brannenburg)

  • Maxima by Feliciano-Destano (Breeder/Owner: Peter Paintner, Hohenthann)
