The final CCI5*-L of 2026 in Pau, a four-star cross-country event in Kronenberg, Netherlands, the Global Champions Tour in Cairo, and other show jumping tournaments from Spain to the U.S. — a look ahead at this weekend’s sporting events.

CCI5*-L Pau, France

The CCI5*-L in Pau, at the foot of the Pyrenees, is definitely worth the trip. However, no riders from Germany are competing this year. It should still be exciting, though. Fifty pairs are on the list for tomorrow’s fitness test.

Strong British

Contingent

The field is led by Badminton and Burghley champion Ros Canter riding the Irish horse MHS Seventeen. The Callahan son made his five-star debut two years ago in Pau, finishing in 11th place. In Luhmühlen in 2025, he placed 19th after a pass-by.

Ros’s teammate on the gold-medal-winning team at the Paris Olympics and the 2026 World Championships, Tom McEwen, will compete in Pau on the nine-year-old Holsteiner Quintus, by Quibery, bred by Hobe Magens. For the 11th-place finisher at the 2024 World Championships for Young Eventing Horses, this will be his first five-star competition.

Other big British names on the entry list include Yasmin Íngham, who will be riding the 10-year-old Selle Français mare Gypsie du Loir; Tom Jackson with Plot Twist B by Plot Blue; Izzy Taylor with three horses, including the 2023 World Champion among six-year-old eventing horses, Barrington Alice, who is competing in her first five-star event, and Bubby Upton, who will be riding her proven Holsteiner Cola by Catoki, bred by Peter Böge, and It’s Cooley Time.

The Prices, times 6

The married couple Jonelle and Tim Price are represented by six horses alone: Jonelle with Capitaine de Hus Z, who placed fourth at Luhmühlen; Grappa Nera, who won at Pau in 2022; and her Aachen partner Senor Crocodillo; Tim with five-star debutant Garcon (10), Happy Boy, and last year’s winner Jarillo.

Vogg Aims for the Top

Among the riders who have already won five-star events is Switzerland’s Felix Vogg, competing with two horses. One is the Holsteiner mare Cartania by Cartani, with whom he won the CCI5* in Maryland, USA, a year ago and placed eighth at Badminton this year; the other is his 2025 European Championship and 2026 World Championship partner, Frieda, a Holsteiner mare by Casalito.

CSI5* Cairo – Riding in Front of the Pyramids

Hopefully, the glamour of the Global Champions Tour will bring about what the Egyptian Equestrian Federation has promised: improved living conditions for the working horses, donkeys, and camels in the region—which earn a living for themselves and their owners by serving tourists—will improve. The federation had announced this on September 2, at the very least, and also stated that, as a first step, a vaccination campaign had already been launched—which will hopefully continue and not be discontinued once the “million-dollar horses” have left.

The setting is certainly spectacular! Competing for Germany are Daniel Deußer, Marcus Ehning, and Sophie Hinners—three members of the gold-medal-winning team from the World Championships in Aachen. Joining them are Olympic champion Christian Kukuk, Marco Kutscher, and Maximilian Weishaupt, who have a chance in Cairo to secure the overall victory in the Global Champions League for Team Riesenbeck International before the season even ends.

In addition, the Global Champions Tour has a new website. However, the results are presented more clearly directly on the Longines timing website.
