An international dressage competition, rated up to CDI4*, took place this weekend in Troisdorf, between Cologne and Bonn. Several prominent riders competed there, and in the CDI3* Grand Prix, team world champion Frederic Wandres claimed victory.

It was the first three-star competition for the 12-year-old Hanoverian Fred by Fahrenheit, and it was a victory. The pair scored 71.022 percent, finishing ahead of another celebrity duo. Frederic Wandres was also unbeatable in the Grand Prix Special (71.442).

Swedish rider Tinne Vilhelmson Silfvén rode the Oldenburg stallion So Perfect to second place in both of these three-star classes. She fell just short of the 70 percent mark on both occasions. The pair scored 69.652 percent and 69.383 percent, respectively.

Third place in the Grand Prix went to another Swedish rider—one who has lived in Germany for a long time. Malin Wahlkamp Nilsson rode the Hanoverian Skyman by Surprise, also twelve years old, and received a score of 68.783 percent. In the Special, she placed fourth (68.362) behind Julia de Ridder riding Birkhofs Diamantinos (68.617 percent).

CDI4* Grand Prix — Navarro Pulls Off a Stunner in the Grand Prix

Although only four pairs competed in the CDI4* Grand Prix, the judging panel was top-notch. It included several judges who had previously decided medal winners at championships, and they saw a clear winner. Once again, it was a Swedish rider living in Germany: Therese Nilshagen with her World Championship horse, Navaro. The ten-year-old Hanoverian stallion by Negro posted a score of 73.109 percent, delivering by far the best performance of the entire competition. The score sheet included several “8” marks—not only for the extended trot and canter, but also for the passage. In the passage, the black horse stays true to his sire’s lineage and executes it with ever-increasing power and precision.

In the Grand Prix Special, however, the pair didn’t have their best day. The anpiaffe from collected walk didn’t quite work out. The following piaffe also went wrong. Then the pair regained their composure, but the points were already lost.

Eggenberger Wins the Grand Prix Special

That paved the way for Switzerland’s Delia Eggenberger. Riding the 11-year-old Santa Maria, she had already placed second in the Grand Prix (68.956). In the Grand Prix Special, she took the win (69.532). With more confident flying changes, the Swiss pair could have broken the 70-percent mark. Second place went to the third-place finishers from the Grand Prix, Lena Hassmann riding Chere Celine OLD, who has already enjoyed great success this season. The Governor daughter scored 67.326 percent in the Grand Prix for a ride that included, among other things, a costly mistake. The zigzag half-passes, which were multiplied by a coefficient of two and factored into the final score in the Grand Prix, did not go as planned. In the Grand Prix Special, there was a mistake in the two-tempi changes (68.723).

In the free skate competition, France’s Amadine Prevost dominated with the Brandenburg-based horse Quaterdance. They won the free skate with a score of 73.265 percent, ahead of Nadine Plaster and Shiva NRW (72.175). The order of appearance had been the same in the Grand Prix as well.
