Luhmühlen mourns the loss of a prominent figure: Rembert Kübel Heising has passed away

By profession, Rembert Kübel-Heising was a lawyer with a law firm in Salzhausen. In the equestrian world, however, he was known as one of the driving forces behind Luhmühlen, a defining figure in this stronghold of eventing. And he had been so for many years.

In 1982, just in time for the World Championships, his wife Linda founded the now-legendary “Horse & Rider” store in the “Alter Hengstenstall” on Dorfstraße. Rembert Kübel-Heising supported his wife as managing director, pulling the strings behind the scenes to turn it into a thriving retail business. In addition to his day job, he was actively involved not only in supporting his wife but also in promoting Luhmühlen as a business location.

Leading Figure

Since 2019, Rembert Kübel-Heising has served as chairman of the Luhmühlen Horse Breeding and Riding Club (Pferdezucht- und Reitverein Luhmühlen e.V.). On November 1, 2024, together with entrepreneur Felix Manzke and auditor/tax consultant Christian Siemer, he took over TGL Turniergesellschaft Luhmühlen mbH from the founding partners Karl Rabeler, Jochen Döhle, Rolf Seidel, and Michael Spethmann, who stepped down after 26 years.

Kübel-Heising succeeded Julia Otto as managing director; Otto has since focused on marketing and television-related matters. Jessica Christoph remained in charge of day-to-day operations. He thus assumed the key role of organizing a smooth transition of this long-standing event into new hands and continuing the Longines Luhmühlen Horse Trials—one of only seven five-star long-format events in the sport of eventing worldwide—as the centerpiece of the organization.

In his role as managing director, he has since expanded the tournament’s financial foundation: In February 2026, Luhmühlen announced that it had secured a new automotive title sponsor for the tournament taking place June 18–21, in addition to its existing title sponsors Meßmer and Lotto Niedersachsen—thanks to Kübel-Heising.

In Memory of

Rembert Kübel-Heising passed away on September 8. He was 72 years old. His obituary includes three sayings that shaped his life: “Family First,” “Just do it and don’t leave anything out,” and “Nothing is impossible.”

Now we’ll have to manage without him.
