National Championships: Sophie Hinners Celebrates a One-Two Finish in the Five-Year-Old Show Jumping Division

In total, Hinners had four horses competing in the National Championship for five-year-old show jumpers, all of which finished in the top ten. Three of them advanced to the final of the top eight. The Holsteiner Cadoc, bred by Klaus Jürgen Pühlmann, was crowned champion of the five-year-olds. A gelding bred according to the principles of international success. His sire is Casall, here paired with a daughter of Diamant de Semilly. The pedigree continues down the line with Contender and the influential stallion Cor de la Bryère, to whom the new champion is inbred several times.

Full Range of Scores Exploited

Cadok initially received a 9.3 in the first of the two rounds—which was also the highest score in Round One—and a 9.5 in Round Two. This, too, was the highest score. However, a second horse also achieved this score in the final round. Hinners thus won the National Championship for five-year-old show jumpers with a total score of 18.8.

With a score of 18.6 (9.2/9.4), Hinners also placed second with the Hanoverian stallion Elton. The son of Emerald van het Ruytershof and Ludwig von Bayern was bred by Jens Löhden, was named a premium stallion at the DSP licensing, and is currently a lease stallion at the Marbach State Stud. Last year, he had already won the PSA Tour, a series for four-year-old show jumpers.

Bronze for a horse with a world champion in its lineage

Third place went to Stakariello PS, bred at Gestüt Lewitz, a stallion registered with the Oldenburg International Show Jumping Breeding Association (OS). His sire is none other than the Hanoverian show jumping legend Stakkato. The maternal sire is no less prominent: Chacco-Blue. Emilia Löser rode the stallion, who received an 8.9 in the first round but then earned the top score of 9.5 in the second. A score of 18.4 secured third place for the dark bay, whose dam’s line produced the 1994 and 1998 World Team Champion, PS Priamos (with Dirk Hafemeister and Ludger Beerbaum).

A diverse field in the leading group

. Right behind them, again just one-tenth of a point behind (9.1/9.2), Calvin Böckmann placed the Westphalian mare Betty Rouge, a daughter of Balinsky out of a Comme il faut dam. She was born at Antonius Richter’s farm.

With two very good rounds (9.0), Arne van Heel, riding the Holsteiner Sandro T by Sandro Junior-Zirocco Blue (breeder: Richard Theurer), placed fifth. It was striking that several major stallion lines currently dominating the international competition scene were represented in the final with their offspring: there was no concentration on just one foundation sire or even a specific stallion. For example, Sophie Hinners rode the Westphalian stallion Maroon by Manoulito to sixth place. He traces his lineage back through Manchester van’t Paradijs to Diamant de Semilly.

The OS mare Corfu by Cornet de Semilly finished seventh. Cornet Obolensky’s lineage can also be found in the eighth-place finisher, Kensington Brownie, a son of Kensington ES.
