Hans-Heinrich Meyer zu Strohen Awarded the Title of Master of Equestrian Arts

Hans-Heinrich Meyer zu Strohen has been awarded the title of Reitmeister. With this honor, Pferdesport Deutschland—formerly the German Equestrian Federation (FN)—recognizes his many years of service as an instructor and trainer in German dressage. The award was presented in Verden during the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses, in the presence of numerous colleagues and students.

From Auction Rider to National Team Coach

Hans Heinrich Meyer zu Strohen completed his training with the Hanoverian Association. Among his mentors at the time was Hans-Joachim Köhler. Meyer zu Strohen rode for many years at the Verden Auctions. In connection with this, he also worked in the United States and rode at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. The slender rider’s elongated seat quickly became his trademark. Meyer zu Strohen rode several Bundeschampions, but was equally successful in Grand Prix Sport.

Head in Hoya

In 1986, he took over as director of the Hoya State Riding School. This was followed by various roles as a state and national coach. Holger Schmezer, then the national coach of the German dressage team, was one of the mentors who guided Meyer zu Strohen along this path. He has been the national coach for the U18 dressage riders since 2001, and since 2006 he has also been coaching the young riders. Today, his responsibilities also include coaching the U25 riders.

In addition, Hans Heinrich Meyer zu Strohen serves as the breeding commissioner for the Hanoverian Association.

Cornelia Albrecht, chairwoman of the Young Dressage Riders Working Group at Pferdesport Deutschland, highlighted in her laudatory speech Meyer zu Strohen’s particular importance in the training of young riders. The title of “Reitmeister” stands for equestrian skill, training expertise, responsibility toward the horse, and the ability to guide people over many years. Riders he has coached have won a total of 186 medals at European Championships.

With the appointment of Hans-Heinrich Meyer zu Strohen, there are now 23 living Master Riders in Germany. The title is awarded for outstanding achievements in the saddle, a long track record of success as a trainer of top riders and horses, and exceptional dedication to equestrian sports.
