No Michael Jung next weekend at the German Eventing Championships in Luhmühlen. For good reason. The three-time Olympic champion in the bush is in demand next weekend in the course in Rotterdam.

Rotterdam is the third qualifier for the FEI League of Nations 2026, the FEI’s show jumping Nations Cup series. Eventing rider Michael Jung will be competing there for Germany for the first time as part of the series.

Germany leads the overall series standings after second place in Abu Dhabi and victory in Ocala. Two of the riders who were already part of the winning team in Ocala will also be representing the German colors in Rotterdam: European Champion, ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Aachen winner Richard Vogel and World Cup fourth-placed René Dittmer(who you can get to know better here).

As already mentioned, this will be Michael Jung’s first time in a German League of Nations team. He recommended himself for this as part of the winning team at the EEF Nations Cup in Mannheim, where he only had one time fault in round one with his new star on the course, Fischerheros Z, and jumped clear in the second round.

The other LLN newcomer to the German team will be Mario Stevens.

The competition

France sends Antoine Ermann, Jeanne Sadran, Nina Mallevaey and Kevin Staut.

Jessica Kürten has lined up Shane Sweetnam, Jordan Coyle, Michael Duffy and Niamh McEvoy for Ireland.

Rodrigo Pessoa represents the Brazilian colors together with Marlon Zanotelli, Yuri Mansur and Eduardo Pereira de Menezes.

The Olympic champions from Great Britain include Paris gold medalist Harry Charles and his sister Sienna, Ben Maher as Harry’s teammate from the Olympics (and father Peter Charles in London 2012) and Jessica Mendoza.

As the sixth-placed team, Belgium must make up points to be sure of a place in the final of the top eight in Barcelona. The European champion nation will compete in Rotterdam with Pieter Devos, Roy van Baek, Annelies Vorsselmans and Gregory Wathelet.

As the seventh-placed team, Switzerland is also under pressure. Gaetan Joliat, Alain Jufer, Jason Smith and Martin Fuchs should make up ground in Rotterdam.

Although the Netherlands are the defending champions and have the home advantage on their side, there is also a lot at stake for them, as they are currently in eighth place. Willem Greve, Harrie Smolders, Sanne Thijssen and Bas Moerings are hoping to change that.

Italy and the USA are in last place in the overall standings. Riding for Italy in Rotterdam will be Piergiorgio Bucci, who is currently in excellent form, Emanuele Camilli, Giulia Martinengo Marquet and Emanuele Gaudiano.

The USA will be represented by Karl Cook, Katie Dinan, Callie Schott and Marilyn Little, who, like Michael Jung, is also successful in the eventing saddle.
