Why was the Glock Horse Performance Center Netherlands closed?
Kathrin Glock on the dissolution of the Glock Horse Performance Center in the Netherlands
Edward Gal, pictured here with Zonik, father of Zonik Plus and others, who died in 2021, took a break from the sport in 2022, presented Total US 2024 at two international tournaments, but has not appeared again since then. Photo: Sportfotos-lafrentz.de The US edition of Vanity Fair published a detailed article about Gaston Glock, his firearms business and his private life at the beginning of April 2026. The Austrian billionaire, whose handguns were among the most popular in the USA, died on December 27, 2023. The Glock Horse Performance Center in the Netherlands was closed in 2024.
Kathrin Glock, Gaston Glock’s 50-year-old second wife, has now told Vanity Fair that the plan to close the GHPC in the Netherlands was made during Gaston Glock’s lifetime and that it was in no way related to the fact that the business was doing badly (which, incidentally, she says is not the case).
Withdrawal from the horse business
Kathrin Glock told Vanity Fair: “Glock’s retirement from international equestrian sport and breeding was made public in November 2024. The plan was made by Gaston Glock in 2022. The execution then took place gradually and steadily over the coming years under my leadership.”
Commenting on the horses’ whereabouts, she said: “All the horses have been retired from the sport and are now enjoying their retirement in a real equine paradise – GHPC Austria.”
The fact that this is the plan was already announced on the occasion of the closure of GHPC Oosterbeek in the Netherlands, so it has only been confirmed once again.
In fact, Hans Peter Minderhoud declared last year in Rotterdam that this would be his last ride on Glock’s Taminiau, as his contract with Glock was coming to an end. He had already said goodbye to his Olympic horse Toto Jr. three months earlier in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
Edward Gal had already taken a break from the sport in 2022 and only returned to the arena for two appearances in 2024.
Plant sold in the Netherlands
In the new home of the horses, the Glock Horse Performance Center in Treffen, Austria, horse enthusiast Kathrin Glock was able to pursue her own passion for many years, but also organized tournaments up to five-star level, which were also canceled. “This decision affected the internationally organized “Horses & Stars” tournaments. These globally recognized tournaments were also part of Glock’s marketing and communication strategy.”
The feudal facility that Glock built for Hans Peter Minderhoud and Edward Gal in the Netherlands has now been sold, as published yesterday by the Dutch magazine Horses.nl. The new owner is Jan Anker of Anchor Excellent Horses. He owns several licensed stallions and has two riding daughters. The most prominent “Anchor Excellent Horse” is the KWPN stallion Hermès by Easy Game, third in the 2022 World Championships, European and Olympic champion with Dinja van Liere. He is now the U25 horse for Anker’s daughter Eline, 22. Jan Anker is Chairman of the A Ware Group, which claims to sell 250 million tons of boxes worldwide every year.
