In the district of Gifhorn, wolves are said to have panicked horses
Wolves? Horses break out of paddock in Gifhorn district

He told dpa that a hunting tenant had reported to him in the morning that a wildlife camera had recorded wolves that had been about 250 meters away from his horses’ pasture. However, it could not be proven that the animals were panicked by wolves.
The horses had been standing outside permanently for three weeks. They have been “a little restless” over the past few days. They are back in the stable for the time being.
The horse owner found out about the escape of his animals from the police. They were all recaptured, but some of them were seriously injured and had to be treated by a vet. The police confirmed the incident, but not that it was caused by wolves.
The horse owner also says that only lone wolves have been sighted in the area so far. He has seen one himself. Sheep have already been killed in the area, but not horses so far.
A look at the damage table of livestock damage in Lower Saxony shows more than 200 hits in the district of Gifhorn, whereby in some cases the wolf was excluded as the cause and in others it could not be proven or an assessment was not possible. However, there is evidence of several wolf kills on sheep in particular. There is also evidence that several cattle and wild deer have been killed by a wolf.
