With the ideal result of zero penalty points, a strong German junior team secured the Nations Cup in Compiègne - in a jump-off against Ireland.

Things could hardly have gone better for the German juniors in the Nations Cup in Compiègne! But the start was rather bumpy. Opening rider Ava Ferch was eliminated with Tendresse de la Vie Z in round one and had a knockdown in the second round. But Lennard Tillmann with Veltiner, Victoria Schumacher on Noah de Kalvarie and Brianne Beerbaum with Kiss Me pulled the coals out of the fire for her. All three jumped clear in both rounds. As a result, Ava’s faults were no longer a problem and the team led by team boss Eberhard Seemann had a flawless result.

However, this also applied to the youngsters from Ireland, who are always among the favorites. So there had to be a fight for victory.

The pricking

All the riders in the team had to compete against the clock once again. And this time Ava Ferch and Tendresse de la Vie Z remained clear. However, they were significantly slower than Senan Reape and Creevagh Special, who opened the Irish round. So: 1:0 for Ireland.

The tide turned when Lennard Tillmann and Veltiner completed their third clear round of the day, while Lauren Adams on Caddie Z dropped a pole. Advantage Germany.

Victoria Schumacher and Noah de Kalvarie then sealed the deal with their clear round, while Annie Boland and Calisto Blanc also dropped a pole. This meant that the two final riders no longer had to compete.

Third place went to the team from Sweden with eight penalty points from both rounds.

Balancing justice for the young riders

It was also exciting in the Nations Cup for young riders, where the order was ultimately reversed – Ireland ahead of Germany. After the first round, Germany had eight faults and was in third place. Peter Teeuwen’s team then showed great form in the second round.

The heroine of the day was Romy Rosalie Tietje, who jumped clear twice with Cascadino as the final rider. Emile Baurand and Champ had one knockdown in the first round, as did Fabio Thielen on Clarion de Luxe. Ben Heckmann and Inge’s 28 faults in the first round can be described as a completely atypical black out. They made up for it in round two, where first Emile and Champ finished clear and then Heckmann and his Inge. Thanks to Tietjen’s clear round, Fabio Thielen’s eight penalty points in the second round were of no consequence.

The Irish had four faults, which counted. The Belgians also had eight penalty points like Germany, but the worse times. That meant third place.
