Portuguese victory in the Grand Prix of Arezzo, fourth place for Gerrit Nieberg
Gerrit Nieberg and his Queen in front in Arezzo
Rodrigo Giesteira and Karonia.L took the Grand Prix of the Toscana Tour to Portugal. Photo: Arezzo Equestrian Center Since Karin Ernsting entrusted the eleven-year-old KWPN mare IB Queen to Gerrit Nieberg for competitions around a year ago, hardly a weekend has gone by with the pair without them bringing home at least one ribbon. This weekend at the Toscana Tour was no exception. In three jumping competitions they did not have a single knockdown and were placed each time. Today they finished fourth in the Grand Prix (CSI4*) over 1.55 meters with prize money of 106,000 euros.
Portugal’s Rodrigo Giesteira Almeida and his successful mare Karonia.L were unassailably fast with a time of 35.79 seconds. This put them ahead of France’s Nicolas Sera on Eleven de Riverland (36.21) and Sweden’s Thomas Ryan in the saddle on Jezebeau BC (38.09). Nieberg and his Queen had needed 38.84 seconds.
Sandra Auffarth and Quirici H missed out on a place in the second round after a knockdown. Maximilian Weishaupt and Omerta Incipit suffered the same fate.
