100 representatives of the 2023 vintage competed in Münster-Handorf for the 2025 Westphalian licensing. 40 dressage stallions and 24 show jumping stallions were given the go-ahead for breeding. A total of 21 stallions were also awarded prizes. Both winning stallions were available for sale and will soon become colleagues at Klosterhof Medingen.

So Perfect’s first champion stallion

The 2019 OL reserve winner So Perfect by Sezuan, who was successful up to Intermédiare II level under Leonie Richter, was already able to produce a premium stallion in Oldenburg. In Münster-Handorf he went one better and delivered the winning stallion.

The offspring of So Perfect are particularly desirable in view of the fact that their sire is now a gelding and was sold to Sweden as a sport horse for Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfven. Other stallions with very good offspring, Benetton Dream and Bon Coeur, had already followed this path. Not much was heard of them in terms of sport after that, but in terms of breeding.

At least the latter now also applies to So Perfect, who sired two sons in Westphalia, both of whom were licensed. The champion stallion, who impressed with his elegance, charm and drive, is also interestingly bred on his dam’s side. He is out of a full sister to the prevented 2019 Champion Stallion, Dynamic Dream by Dream Boy-Sir Donnerhall-Arpeggio. The breeder of all three horses is the Dutch stallion Catarinus van der Lahn. This year’s champion stallion was exhibited by the breeder Heinrich Gießelmann, who also prepared the youngster.

Dynamic Dream was stripped of his champion stallion title at the time due to prohibited medication. But by then he had already been sold to Helgstrand Dressage for 1.9 million euros, where he had already sired 43 licensed sons despite not being tested for performance due to an irreparable injury. The 2025 champion stallion was not quite as expensive as his “uncle”. He went to customers from France for 500,000 euros, who will place him on the station at Klosterhof Medingen. He will make his sire debut there under the name So Magic .

Speaking of Dynamic Dream …

… with seven stallions, he already had a 100 percent yield in Vechta with seven licensed stallions from seven candidates. He also achieved this in Westphalia, here with four out of four. And here, too, one offspring went to the premium ring and in this case was named first reserve winner: the catalog number 12 by Dynamic Dream-Benicio-De Niro. The bay stallion was bred by Simon Kohlenbrenner, the man behind the auction platform PFERD24. However, his stallion was sold to a local customer – for 300,000 euros. He will begin his career at the Pape stallion station.

Two reserve winners for Helgstrand

In Westphalia there are always several reserve winners, this time it was two young stallions who shared the title of second reserve winner and who were both sold to Helgstrand Dressage. The first was catalog number 22 by Extra Gold-Charmeur-Dream of Glory , bred by ZG Labohm in Halsenbach and exhibited by Bernd Hollmann in Gronau. The sire by Escolar, a Weihegold grandson on his dam’s side, was the champion stallion in Westphalia in 2021 and is therefore a premium stallion from his first crop who impressed with his enormous elasticity. The auction hammer fell at 415,000 euros.

Hedda Ottmann-Droege is the proud breeder of the second reserve winner number two by Follow Him’s Schönweide-De Kooning-Weltmeyer. Her Dalmer estate exhibited the powerful chestnut, whose dam also produced the S***-successful NRW state stud stallion Selectric. He cost 350,000 euros.

The other premium stallions

Eight other dressage stallions were awarded prizes but not ranked. Nevertheless, they were in demand.

One of these was catalog number 3 by Bonderas-San Amour-Depardieu. He was bred in Austria by fellow photographer Petra Kerschbaum. Pascal Kandziora was both exhibitor and presenter. The auction hammer for the black stallion fell at 150,000 euros.

The prize-winning son of Escanto PS-Top Gear-Vitalis (breeder and exhibitor: Christian Schulze-Topphoff, Telgte) has found a new home at Celle State Stud for 76,000 euro. The granddam produced the reserve winner of the 2025 Westphalian Elite Show, St.Pr.St. Jolie Coeur As by Jovian.

An eye-catching stallion in terms of his coloring alone was the prize-winning dark chestnut with light-colored ears by Fanegro-Dancier-Gribaldi (breeder: Heinrich Aarnink, Nordhorn; exhibitor: Mathieu Beckmann, Wettringen). He cost 85,000 euro.

As breeder and exhibitor, Raphaelle Borgmann from Ostbevern was delighted to receive the award for number 34 by For Romance I-Don Frederico-Rubin Royal. The line has produced several Grand Prix horses, most notably Ingrid Klimke’s Dresden Mann out of the third dam Floh by Florestan. The dam’s full brother is Duke Royal, who is also successful up to advanced (S***) level.

The prize-winning son of Secret-Don Nobless-Worldly (breeder and exhibitor: Christian Link, Lünne) comes from the Hanoverian line of Dubissa. He was sold to Hungary for 42,000 Euros.

No more licensing without Vivaldi offspring. Two of those with the “V” in front were awarded prizes. The first was the Hanoverian Vitalis-Fürstenball-Samarant son bred by Welling GbR, Wietmarschen and exhibited by Sportpferde Beckmann GmbH & Co KG. This chestnut, very much influenced by his sire, went under the hammer for 70,000 euros.

The now also award-winning Hanoverian son of the Celle state stud stallion Von und Zu out of a Don Crusador Warkant dam(breeder: Werner and Iris Bellmann, Ottersberg) had already been sold to the Brandenburg State Stud Neustadt (Dosse) before the licensing. He was sold under the name Von Lindenau .

The Zack son Zoom, who is now placed at international Grand Prix level with Helen Langehanenberg, has long been one of the most frequented stallions at Warendorf State Stud. Now he is joined there by one of his sons, the award-winning Zoom-Escolar-Lauries Crusador xx son bred and exhibited by Christoph Rawert in Coesfeld-Lette. Although registered in Westphalia, this is also based on a Hanoverian dam line that has produced successful advanced (S) level horses in dressage, show jumping and eventing. The state stud spent 77,000 euros on the youngster, who was christened Zu Ehren .

Evergreen Chacco Blue

Among the 24 show jumping stallions in Münster-Handorf were two direct Chacco Blue sons. The one who was named champion stallion not only has a sire who is omnipresent in top sport, but also comes from a dam line that is known for successful show jumpers like no other: that of Guten Sitte, BWP prestige line 36. An Aganix de Seigneur emerged from it, of course his sire Ogano Sitte himself and many more. And now also this champion stallion, visually very much in the look of his maternal ancestors, bred by Alexander Onischenko and exhibited by Gestüt Sprehe. The dam, Elyra Sitte by Ogano Sitte-Parco, was herself successful at advanced (S) level. This complete genetic and athletic package fetched a quarter of a million euros at the auction and, as mentioned at the beginning, this stallion will also make his debut at Klosterhof Medingen. His name: Chacco’s Creed.

The reserve winners

The commission selected the first reserve winner, a still quite youthful son of the 1.60 jumper Nixon van het Meulenhof out of the Holstein mare Design ZL by Cassini-Con Air-Amigo xx. The youngster was bred by ZG Linnenbrink GbR and exhibited by Manfred von Allwörden, who discovered and purchased him as a foal at the auction in Zeiskam. The athletic youngster cost 125,000 euros. He will be stabled at the Tebbel stallion station in Emsbüren, where he can now learn from Don Diarado how great sport works, as the bronze medal winner at the World Championships in Tryon recently returned home.

There were also two second reserve winners among the jumping stallions. One was born in Bavaria to Iganz Berger and was also exhibited by him, a son of Chaka out of a Lanciano-Lacros-Pikör dam. Every generation of the falling line has produced advanced (S) level horses – not only in the show jumping ring, but also in the dressage arena. Thomas Münch’s auction hammer fell at 92,000 euros.

IB Berger GmbH is also listed as an exhibitor for the other second reserve winner, here together with Sportpferde Beckmann GmbH. This is the Emerald van het Ruytershof-Quo Vados I-Carano son bred by PBM Pfefferle GmbH. The third dam produced, among others, Hansi Dreher’s top jumper Colore as well as five other licensed stallions, including Corfu de la Vie, and eight internationally successful sport horses, some of them up to 1.60. A Cardento came out of this Holsteiner line 741, a Cardenio, a Colorit and many others. The bay stallion, who is clearly a stallion type, will become a civil servant in Saxony. The Moritzburg State Stud secured the powerhouse for 52,000 euros.

The premium stallions

Five other youngsters were also awarded unranked prizes.

The gray horse that Gestüt Gut Neuenhof sent to Münster is a horse to fall in love with, a son of Caressini out of Unsere Cera by Come On-Contender (breeder and exhibitor: Gestüt Gut Neuenhof KG, Nideggen). As the dam’s name suggests, this youngster is a representative of the successful line of Fein Cera, the Holstein mare bred by the Thormählen family, who carried the US-American Peter Wylde to individual World Championship bronze in 2002 and team gold at the 2004 Olympics. After her outstanding career in sport, the Landadel daughter went into breeding with the Thormählen family and became not only the dam of the stallion, but also the granddam of the Olympic mare Ornellaia (John Whitaker) and the Derby winner Zera (Pato Muente). In the bidding duel at the auction after the licensing, the Maas J. Hell station won the bid. The gray stallion will be his sire’s stablemate there.

A sporty Zangersheide stallion by Casago-Canturano I, bred in the Netherlands and owned by BB Sporthorses GmbH, Havixbeck, was also called to the final ring. He went under the hammer for 40,000 euros.

The striking colorful chestnut by Casall-Quidam de Revel(breeder: Landpferdehoof Schwartz-Hafter GbR, Hochdonn), presented by Sylwia Grau, Meerbusch, in Münster-Handorf, was not for sale. The Holsteiner represents the 628B line, which has produced various successful sport horses as well as the licensed stallions Casillero H, Quintino, Cabachon, Cheenook and others.

The award-winning Westphalian stallion by Comme il faut-Caretino, bred by Helga Spallek, Ibbenbüren, is a true athlete, shaped through and through by his sire, but with a much larger frame. Former national trainer Kurt Gravemeier exhibited him and witnessed how the stallion found new owners for 110,000 euros. The highly successful dam line produced world champion Cumano (Jos Lansink), Felix Hassmann’s German champion Cayenne WZ and countless other top horses.

The patent jumping son of Okawango-Asca Z , bred by Christoph Seite, Friedrichsruhe, and exhibited by Matthias Schlamminger GmbH, Regensburg, is a young stallion in large format. He also received a premium and subsequently went under the hammer for 36,000 euros.

Statistics

A total of 46 of the 56 licensed stallions on offer were sold. They fetched an average of just under 100,000 euros. Of the unlicensed stallions, 20 were on offer and 18 found a new owner. The average price here was 26,750 euros. Incidentally, the highest price here was achieved by the chestnut-colored Secret son with Escamillo dam, a representative of the Dodona line (Ahlerich, Rembrandt, Rubinstein & Co.), bred by Johannes Buers in Hamminkeln. He was knocked down to customers from Germany online at 55,000 euros.
