Jalisco was a powerhouse. His genes can be found in almost every medal winner in show jumping since the turn of the millennium. Worldwide horse breeding owes him stallions such as Quidam de Revel, Nabab de Reve and Vigo d’Arsouilles. And that is just a small selection.
Jalisco was born in 1975. He descended from Almé ‘s fourth crop and thus from a time when his sire did not yet have the reputation of being a sire of world-class horses. Jalisco’s maternal grandfather had exactly this reputation, as Jalisco’s dam Tanagra was sired by the famous thoroughbred Furioso xx. The best of the best in Selle Français at that time.
Olympic blood: Jalisco, first bull’s eye from Almé
As a young horse, Jalisco stood in the shadow of his half-brothers, especially Galoubet. He was the strongest of the Almé sons and had the most ground covering canter. However, it is said in France that he did not have too much respect for the poles. His career began where his sire had also stood, with Anaud Evain. Under Xavier Leredde, Jalisco won the Grand Prix of Paris as an eight-year-old and was part of the Olympic squad. An injury prevented him from competing in Los Angeles in 1984. The stallion was sold and then took part in the 1988 Seoul Games under the Portuguese flag. He then returned to France as a stud stallion.
Breeding jackpot
Jalisco’s descendants were soon to make history. Without him, many gold medals in the most difficult competitions would have been distributed differently. Because without Jalisco, there would have been no Quidam de Revel, no Vigo d’Arsouilles, no London. And no Hello Sanctos or Kashmir van Schuttershof either.
The most successful matings of Jalisco were with dams that carried the blood of Nankin by. Fra Diavolo xx. Quidam de Revel is out of the Nankin daughter Dirka, Dollar du Muriel has Uriel by Nankin as his dam’s sire.
Olympia in the blood: Quidam de Revel
Born in 1982, Quidam de Revel brought his rider Hervé Gordignon fourth place at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona as well as team bronze. He later went under the Danish rider Thomas Velin. The Velin family were among the first stallion owners to produce a clone of their star sire. They used it intensively in breeding as a 100 percent replacement for the original. This genetic copy was born in 2005.
By this time, Quidam de Revel’s offspring had long been a fixture on the international breeding and sporting scene. Many of his licensed sons competed in international arenas. They also established their own stallion lines as important branches of the Almé dynasty. Above all Nabab de Reve (1990-2015).
Nabab de Reve – Medals guaranteed for generations
The caliber brown horse won the team bronze medal at the 2002 World Championships in Jerez de la Frontera under Belgian rider Philippe LeJeune. The Belgian also owes the crowning glory of LeJeune’s riding career to Nabab de Reve: with Nabab’s son Vigo d’Arsouilles, LeJeune became World Show Jumping Champion in Kentucky in 20210.

Other important sons of Nabab de Reve were Guidam and Kashmir van Schuttershof. Kashmir sired Peder Fredricson’s (SWE) All in, the horse that achieved the feat of winning the silver medal in the individual Olympic finals in Rio in 2016 and Tokyo in 2021. The Swedes also won gold in Tokyo. In 2017, the little bay carried his rider to the European Championship title in front of a home crowd, and in 2022 the pair were part of the Swedish team that won the gold medal at the World Championships in Herning.
Gazelle, a Kashmir daughter ridden by the US American Kent Farrington, won the world’s most difficult competitions, including the Grand Prix of Aachen.
London and Hello Sanctos
The chestnut stallion London, also known by some breeding associations under his original name Carembar de Muze, is also a son of Nabab de Reve. Under Gerco Schroeder (NEDI), the powerful Belgian won the team and individual silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games and became team world champion in Caen in 2014. The pair won the World Cup Final in the same year.
Nabab de Reve’s dam’s sire is the gelding Hello Sanctos by Quasimodo van de Molendreef, who was the first horse under Scott Brash (GBR) to win the Grand Slam of Showjumping, the multi-million euro combination of the most demanding Grand Prix in show jumping sponsored by watch manufacturer Rolex. Other merits include the team Olympic victory in London and victory in the team competition at the European Championships in Herning in 2013, where the pair won bronze in the individual competition.
More Quidam de Revel sons
The Quidam de Revel sons Quel Homme, Sterrehof’s Calimero, Quaprice du bois Margot, Quidam’s Rubin and Verdi also celebrated outstanding successes. Verdi won the individual Olympic bronze medal in show jumping under Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) in both Tokyo and Paris 2024. Quidam’s grandson Quintero by Quantum Rolf Göran Bengtsson was in the World Cup final three times.
For a handful of dollars more
The list of successful and influential Jalisco offspring would be incomplete without mentioning Dollar de la Pierre, who was later used under the name Tlaloc la Silla. He became team world champion in 2002 under Reynald Angot (FRA) and won team silver at the 2003 European Championships. As a stallion, he sired Rebozo, with whom Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA) finished fourth at the 2010 World Championships in Kentucky and eighth at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The “second dollar”, surname “du Murier” (dam by Uriel-Ibrahim) brought Eric Navet (FRA) individual silver and team gold at the 2002 World Championships in Jerez, where 22 percent of the starting show jumpers were backed by Almé. Of the ten best combinations in the final, as many as 40 percent were backed by Almé. Myrtille, the “Blueberry” with whom Roger Yves Bost became European Champion in Herning in 2013, is a daughter of Dollar du Murier. And “Bosti’s” very successful stallion Ideal de la Loge is also sired by Dollar du Murier.
And the show jumping world owes another historic milestone to Jalisco: when Alexandra Ledermann became the first woman in history to win the European Championships in 1999, she was in the saddle of a Jalisco son: Rochet M. The pair had won the bronze medal in the individual classification at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
