A girl's dream: to make it big internationally with a horse that you have ridden in novice show jumping competitions. As of today, Tomma Thiesen knows what that feels like. She won with Big Lady ZE in Hohen Wieschendorf.

Tomma Thiesen is 19 years old and works on the island of Fehmarn with Hinerk Köhlbrandt. Jumping on the Baltic coast is therefore in her blood. She showed just how much at the international four-star show jumping competition in Hohen Wieschendorf. With Big Lady ZE, she won the 1.40 meter jumping competition as part of the CSI4*. It was her very first start in this category. She won with time to spare. Her lead over second-placed Ansgar Holtgers Jr. (USA) on Kennedy Z was three and a half seconds. Michael Viehweg came third with Cyrill.

From A to 4*S in three years

The speed was decisive, as 49 pairs remained clear and five others had no faults but time faults. It could almost have been a double victory for the 19-year-old. Riding Bert by Branzau, she managed the fastest four-fault ride in 58.53 seconds. Bert rolled a pole at the last obstacle. Only the daughter of Olympic champion Big Star (Rio 2016), Big Lady ZE, was faster than her stablemate.

Thiesen takes it in his stride. “I’ve known both horses for a very long time. We have to communicate very little to know exactly what the other wants. That’s the only way it’s possible.” She says that feelings of motherhood come up with both horses – she started with them in A-level tests.

“Diligence and talent” – nothing more

Her success is no coincidence. In April, Thiesen was victorious with Big Lady in a three-star show jumping competition in Hagen, and last weekend she rode her first Nations Cup at senior level. Trainer Hinerk Köhlbrandt, in whose stable she works, keeps the explanation short: “Diligence and talent.”

Eckermann wins the morning jumping competition

Katrin Eckermann had already won a 1.40-meter class on Thursday morning – with the eight-year-old Chacoona Cat in 59.76 seconds, 56 hundredths of a second ahead of Miriam Schneider on Querida by Quibery. Third: Paula Nagel with Carmen. The Chacoon Blue daughter Chacoona Cat was Bundeschampionesse in 2024 under Sophie Hinners – Eckermann took over the grey mare in the fall of 2025. “She’s a fighter, very sensitive, but she shows her courage on the course,” Eckermann sums up in his usual matter-of-fact manner.
