Philipp Weishaupt won the Grand Prix in Hohen Wieschendorf - with a mare that he discovered by chance on Clipmyhorse almost two years ago. A hospital laboratory assistant from Redefin made it into the jump-off.

The Grand Prix of Hohen Wieschendorf was the first 1.60-metre show jumping competition that the nine-year-old Lady Concern du Rezidal had ridden in her life. And then a victory straight away. Philipp Weishaupt says that he deliberately rode her in 1.45 and 1.50 meter classes for a long time. “Under the radar”, as he says. The Olympic rider had seen the mare by chance on Clipmyhorse. “I immediately fell in love because she simply jumped much better than all the others,” said Weishaupt after his victory on the Baltic coast. “We bought her straight away, without trying her out.” Behind “we” is the owner Edouard de Rothschild .

Five in the jump-off

Five of the 50 starters remained clear in the round – five others had no jumping faults, but time faults. Weishaupt expressly praised course designer Hesse: “If he had extended the time by just one second, everyone would have ridden a little slower and we would probably have had a lot more clear rounds. Five riders in the jump-off of a Grand Prix – that’s quite enough.”

Weishaupt remained the fastest in the jump-off, 0.17 seconds ahead of second-placed Ales Opatrny (CZE) on Vivo de Muze PS, a Vivant son he has only been riding since January. It was also Vivo’s first 1.60-meter jumping competition. “He did a great job!” says Opatrny – and with a view to his fourth place last year, he adds dryly: “Let’s see what happens next year.” The Swede Douglas Lindelöw completed the podium with a clear round in 47.10 seconds on Asterix de Couleur.

The fifth from Redefin

None of the three professionals received the loudest cheers of the evening. Christin Wascher, 27, a laboratory technician in a hospital and competing for RFV Landgestüt Redefin, was the only woman to make it into the jump-off of the Grand Prix.

She rode the 15-year-old Quincy clear through the round. Wascher has known the Quintero son for six years. “Quincy is a very special type. The more special he becomes, the better he jumps – he must have that craziness.” The pair made two faults in the jump-off, finishing in fifth place. Before the jump-off, she and her father calmly walked the course. “And then I actually did everything as usual.”
