Ten of these pairs also managed to do so in the jump-off in this 1.50 m test. Steve Guerdat was the fastest. The Swiss rider had saddled the Westphalian mare Lancelotta. The Lancer daughter sped around the course at lightning speed. The Swiss rider thus thwarted a home victory: Harrie Smolders came second with Mr. Tac, 33 hundredths of a second behind.
The best German rider was Katrin Eckermann, who finished fifth with Dialou Blue. Daniel Deußer and Pepita van’t Meulenhof finished ninth. Willem Greve, who is celebrating a phenomenal indoor season, almost managed to win in front of his home crowd. But his horse Grandorado was not only 0.03 seconds slower than Guerdat’s Lancelotta, he also had to accept a knockdown.
“It’s always nice to win, especially after a good jump-off,” summarized Guerdat afterwards. “The jump-off is actually the best part of our sport”. He says Lancelotta is ideal for the jump-off. “She is very pleasant to ride in the jump-off. She thinks for herself, can make tight turns and take one less canter jump. So I don’t have to pay attention to what my competitors are doing. I make my plan and try to implement it as well as possible. Today she reacted even better than I expected.”
Course in two halls
The indoor derby, which leads from the large event hall through the exhibition stands into another exhibition hall with a steep jump, was won by Dutch rider Henk van der Pol and No Fathers Girl. His compatriot Bas Moerings, who had already won a difficult jumping competition on Friday, came second here. The best German was Richard Vogel in sixth place. His Diamant de Casall was doomed by the steep jump in the side arena. The licensed Holstein stallion had previously won the opening jumping competition on Saturday – with his eighth clear round in a row in a CSI5* jumping competition.
Sophie Hinners and Come away Flamingo Z came second. Katrin Eckermann rode Comilio to fourth place.
