Meyer-Zimmermann, Rüder & Co. - Saturday's winners in the show jumping course
Arezzo, Oliva, Riesenbeck and more – Saturday on the course
Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann and Katrien were unbeatable today in Oliva Nova. Photo: MET/clicphoto Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann and the eleven-year-old KWPN mare Katrien by Verdi TN recorded their best joint success to date at the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour (CSI3*) in Oliva. They won the highlight of the day today, a 1.45 meter jumping competition with jump-off, where only four pairs finished with two clear rounds.
French rider Antoine Ermann came second on Foxpit Grim by Vigo d’Arsouilles, followed by the Irish duo Anna Duff and Mc Crosskeys.
Katrien has been owned by Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann and her husband Christoph for a year now. However, the two have known each other for much longer. The mare competed in her first elementary level show jumping competition with former Meyer-Zimmermann trainee Henrike Ostermann back in 2021. The following year, she also competed internationally and Ostermann and her boss took turns in the saddle. Kent Farrington, who got to know many horses through the Schenefeld couple, also sat in her saddle for several weeks in 2024. But the liaison did not last too long. In 2025, Katrien went with Mathies Rüder, who rode her at the U21 European Championships in Riesenbeck, among others. But since the beginning of the year, Janne has been back in the saddle herself. Today was their second win together.
German doubles and Epaillard in the Silver Tour
Janne Meyer-Zimmermann also secured second place in another Gold Tour jumping competition over 1.40 meters. Here she rode the mare High Level, who had also repeatedly been at the front in Doha at the beginning of the year. 0.21 seconds separated the pair from the German winning pair Björn Kuwertz with Asad.
In third place was Niels Kersten (NED) with Rose of Ballmore.
The final of the Silver Tour was the prey of Julien Epaillard with his young horse Martinius PKZ, a ten-year-old stallion of unknown breed in Ukrainian ownership, who comes from a Dutch mare family and has a Belgian sire in Iglesias PKZ by Contact van de Heffinck. Epaillard has been riding the stallion for around six months. He previously rode with a Ukainese rider in the U25 tour. Martinius and Epaillard have already placed well up to 1.45 meters. However, today’s victory over 1.40 meters in the Silver Tour was their first.

Various loops in Arezzo
At the CSI4*, yesterday’s winner, Christian Ahlmann, was once again able to enjoy several placings. For the highlight of the day, the 1.45 meter world ranking show jumping competition, he saddled up the ten-year-old Zangersheide stallion Querido VG and rode the son of his Dominator to third place. With the nine-year-old Diamant de Semilly son Diamantino, Ahlmann took sixth place in the other 1.45 meter Gold Tour jumping competition.
Sandra Auffarth and her best show jumper Quirici H were delighted with seventh place, while she had a knockdown with Comcador in the world ranking show jumping competition. On the other hand, the eight-year-old Lady Bois Margot M and Conti delighted her with clear rounds over 1.40 and 1.30 meters respectively.
Kristaps Neretnieks (LAT) on Corlansky-Pro won the world ranking show jumping competition ahead of Brazil’s João Victor Castro Gomes de Lima, who was also at the front yesterday and rode the KWPN mare Lilesta GE to success today.

Rüder in Riesenbeck
The final of the CSI2* medium tour also took place in Riesenbeck today. 93 pairs competed in the 1.45 meter two-phase jumping competition, none of them were as good as Han-Thorben Rüder, the winner of the Agravis Cup in Münster in January, with his 17-year-old Holstein gelding Singu by Singulord Joter, a pair that has already led a Riesenbeck lap of honour five times in the eleven years they have been competing together at international tournaments, today for the sixth time.
The partnership between Michael Kölz and the 16-year-old DSP mare Lexie Grey by Lemwerder is not quite as long, but has already lasted four years. They finished second ahead of Felix Haßmann, who took third and fourth place with his two horses Carrie Brad Shaw MWZ (sic) and Pronto van de Maltahoeve.

Lier: Good debut for Smolders and newcomer
Harrie Smolders has had the Westphalian stallion For Chacco TN under saddle for a few weeks now. This weekend they are competing in their first show together at the CSI2* in Lier. On Thursday they had one knockdown in the two-phase jumping competition. But yesterday they were already double clear and placed over 1.45 meters and today they were again clear and in the money over 1.35 meters.
Wilm Vermeir won today’s world ranking show jumping competition on the nine-year-old Holstein Adagio de Talma son Adelio, who he has been presenting on the international stage since last year. From a German perspective, Steffen Engberg and Conquest of Paradise were delighted with 13th place after a clear round.
Michael Jung had four penalty points with Eclaire Z. Holger Wulschner and Comme un Rêve had seven faults, four for a knockdown and three for exceeding the time limit. Cedric Wolf and the Cornado son Capitano had eight faults. He was in good company, as Team Stephen in the shape of Daniel Deußer on Silence Dwerse Hagen and Kendra Claricia Brinkop with Ma Belle had the same fate.

US victory in Doha
The highest-paying jumping competition in Doha, where the sport continues this weekend and next regardless of the political climate, was the 1.50 meter class of the CSI3* tour. The only US rider competing in the Middle East this weekend, Kristen Vanderveen, came out on top here. With Bull Run’s Mary, a Holsteiner Adagio de Talma daughter, she was almost five seconds faster than the competition and also went clear.
Second place went to South Africa’s Matthew Morrison on the Westphalian Comme il faut son Quebec ahead of Mohamad Mogteeth Alshebab for Syria with Jaguar MS.

German Tiple in Busto Arsizio
Arezzo is not the only Italian CSI this weekend. In Busto Arsizio in Lombardy, jumping is taking place at 2* level. Two 1.4-metre competitions were on the program today, and the Germans were at the front or right at the front in both.
In the qualifier for the Grand Prix, Hans-Dieter Dreher placed the nine-year-old Holsteiner Uncle Sam in eighth place with a fast round despite a knockdown in round two. Edwin Schmuck had qualified for the second round with the Holsteiner Caracho, but was probably conserving the Cascadello II son’s strength for tomorrow. In any case, he decided not to start again.
Dreher Junior in front
Hansi Dreher was probably even happier about his son Ben’s victory in the other 1.40 test than his own eighth place. Riding the Hanoverian mare Valentina by Valentino, the 17-year-old left Sönke Fallenberg in the saddle on Zanzibar Z and Wolfgang Puschak on Odense Z in his wake.
In addition, Dreher Junior was also clear with his second horse, Saint Laurent by Semper Fi, as was Thomas Mang on Quirina GG.
