Roland Metz is the new managing director of the Bavarian Horse Breeders' Association (Landesverband Bayerischer Pferdezüchter e.V.).

A little over four years ago, Roland Metz, a native of Baden-Württemberg, had already moved back south from the Holsteiner Association and taken up the position of managing director and auction director at the Oldenburg Association. Now he’s heading to Bavaria. On November 1, Roland Metz will take over as managing director of the Bavarian Horse Breeders’ Association.

The association’s new executive board—comprising Hans Schiller, Vitus Gasteiger, Marcel Mahr, and Tobias Galmbacher—aims to “chart new, sustainable paths” with him.

, the 1.25-million-euro stallion

: During Metz’s tenure, not only was the Oldenburg Equestrian Center renovated, but several horses were also sold for high prices, most notably the champion stallion Bon Esprit, who was sold to the Schönweide Estate for 1.25 million euros at the time. As auctioneer, he snapped up the foal For Diamond for the sensational price of 181,000 euros.

These successes, along with the introduction of new marketing platforms—such as those at Horses & Dreams—have won over the Bavarians. As they explained in their press release: “During economically challenging years, Roland Metz used his expertise to put Oldenburger Pferdevermarktungs GmbH back on a solid footing.”

A New Approach to Support

Tobias Galmbacher, Chairman of the Board in Bavaria, stated: “We are extremely pleased that we have been able to bring Roland Metz—one of the top equine experts in Germany—on board for Bavaria, as he will actively support the approach we have taken so far in terms of communication and service to breeders.”

And Metz said: “For me, the move to Bavaria is also, to some extent, like coming home. The long-standing, trusting collaboration with Tobias Galmbacher, as well as the exciting prospects, convinced me to accept the offer from the Bavarian Horse Breeders’ Association (Landesverband Bayerischer Pferdezüchter e.V.). I am particularly looking forward to the diverse responsibilities of an association with its three traditional horse breeds and to playing an active role in shaping the future of the Bavarian Horse Breeders’ Association.”

Restructuring at the Oldenburg Association

The future direction of the Oldenburg Association has already been decided. Carsten Rotermund will take over as managing director but will also continue to serve as “Special Representative of the Executive Board of the Oldenburg Horse Breeders’ Association.”

Rotermund: “I am very much looking forward to this new responsibility and to working with our dedicated team to further develop the successful marketing of Oldenburg horses. Our breeders and our customers can continue to count on the highest level of professionalism, passion, and reliability. The Oldenburg Association emphasizes that the handover is taking place in close coordination. Continuity in management and a seamless transition are guaranteed.
