New "FAMOS stud farm management" under Heiner Kanowski
Oldenburg’s former managing director takes over management of Famos Stud Farm
Famos Stud Farm. Photo: gestuet-famos.com After a long legal dispute, an agreement was reached in December between the Oldenburg Horse Breeding Association and its former managing director Heiner Kanowski, ending the collaboration. Kanowski now has a new field of activity.
Famos Stud has announced that Kanowski will take over the management of both the farm in Syke and the other properties owned by entrepreneur Maik Kanitzky. In addition to Famos, which will become the dressage center, these include Gestüt M.K. Ammerland in Bad Zwischenahn and Gestüt Heidehof in Herzberg. Together, they are now the FAMOS stud administration. Heiner Kanowski will manage them “in close coordination with the owner”, as stated in the press release.
Collaboration with Dorothee Schneider
Kanitzky, known in the equestrian world as the breeder of the Sir Donnerhall brothers, among others, bought Famos Stud from Helgstrand Dressage in May 2024. Helgstrand Germany remained the leaseholder for the time being, but has now moved to Isabell Werth’s facility in Rheinberg.
Maik Kanitzky is now reorganizing the business. At the end of last year, he and riding champion Dorothee Schneider announced that the two-time Olympic team champion would be taking over the sporting management of Gestüt Famos.
The team will be presenting its horses and stallions at the stallion show at the Oldenburg Horse Center in Vechta on February 28. Detlef Utecht van Dijk and Christoph Brüseke will also be there as contacts for breeders and interested parties.
