He has been FEI President since 2014 and President of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF), i.e. the association of sports federations participating in the Summer Olympic Games, since 2025. In this capacity, he was elected to the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee for four years at the IOC Assembly in Milan today.
“Great honor”
“Today’s election to the IOC Executive Board is a great honor,” commented de Vos. “I am deeply touched by this result and would like to express my sincere gratitude to my IOC colleagues with whom I have had the privilege of working for almost a decade. This new role also brings with it a great responsibility, especially at a time when the Olympic Movement is undergoing a profound review as part of the ‘Fit for the Future’ process initiated by President Kirsty Coventry.”
This is followed by his plans for the future: “During my term of office, I will work to contribute to the future success of the Olympic Games, the IOC and the Olympic family. As President of ASOIF, I will pay particular attention to the role of the international federations in the Olympic Movement. Together, we must continue to strengthen the popularity, attractiveness and long-term sustainability of the Olympic Games.”
Safeguarding equestrian sport in the Olympic movement
Among the well-wishers was the President of the European Equestrian Federation (EEF), which de Vos helped to found, Quentin Simonet. He said: “The election of Ingmar de Vos to the IOC Executive Board is a great moment for equestrian sport. His election to the highest level of Olympic governance is an eloquent testimony to his deep understanding of and commitment to the Olympic Movement and, more broadly, to the vital dynamics of equestrian sport in the changing Olympic environment.
His presence will continue to strengthen a clear, informed and credible voice based on equestrian expertise. The European Equestrian Federation warmly congratulates him on this important milestone and looks forward with confidence to the impact of his leadership in his many areas of responsibility, in particular inspiring young people, shaping sustainable Olympic Games and ensuring the enduring and strategic importance of equestrian sport within the Olympic Movement.”
