Photo: sportfotos-lafrentz.de Peter Thomsen, the national eventing coach, was involved in a riding accident on June 14. The 65-year-old has been in the hospital ever since, where he is receiving medical care. In recent days, Thomsen’s condition has improved significantly, according to a report on the FN’s website.
To make up for Peter Thomsen’s absence, the “Eventing Coaching Team of Pferdesport Deutschland” is ensuring that all athletes on the national teams receive athletic coaching in the coming weeks.
Rodolphe Scherer, Interim Head Coach
Rodolphe Scherer of France, who has served as the cross-country coach for Team D since 2022, will serve as interim head coach. This applies “in particular with regard to the final tryouts and nominations for the World Championships in Aachen in August,” according to the press release.
As in the past, discipline coaches Anne-Kathrin Pohlmeier (dressage) and Lara Weber (show jumping) will be on hand. In addition, Olympic team champion Andreas Dibowski, who serves as the U25 youth coach and is also a cross-country specialist, will accompany the athletes. “This arrangement is temporary and will remain in effect until further notice,” the statement reads.
Due to his fall, Thomsen was unable to attend the German Championships in Luhmühlen. The now officially announced team—which includes Dr. Annette Wyrwoll, chair of the Eventing Committee of the German Olympic Equestrian Committee, as team manager—ensured a smooth and successful – in Peter Thomsen’s absence.
Nomination for the CCIO4*-NC Avenches
The nomination of the team that will represent Germany in eventing in Aachen will be announced four weeks from now, following the tournament in Avenches. The definitive entries—that is, the eligible riders and their horses—must be submitted to the International Equestrian Federation by July 27. The Nations Cup competition in Avenches is a mandatory qualifying event for all candidates. The Eventing Committee plans to discuss the long list of potential World Championship candidates this Monday evening, based on their observations from Luhmühlen.
