Photo: FEI/Libby Law Photography There is a National Junior Championship in dressage, show jumping, and eventing. Depending on their size, the individual state associations can nominate a certain number of talented pony riders under the age of 14 for a selection camp at the National Training Center in Warendorf. There, the kids ride for three days under the supervision of the respective national coaches. At the end of the training camp, the 20 best pairs qualify to compete in the National Junior Championships.
In dressage, the National Junior Pony Championship (officially known as the Liselott Rheinberger Junior Development Award) was first held in 1997, at that time in Gahlen. This year, the event will take place in Hesse, specifically in Darmstadt-Kranichstein.

: Here, the kids and their ponies must complete two Class L dressage tests. They are both judged in a joint evaluation. The focus is primarily on seat and control, rather than on the quality of the ponies. The scores from both tests are added together. The pair with the highest combined score from both tests wins.
