Two Dutch and one Swedish up-and-coming talent secured their spots in the final of the Six-Year-Olds’ competition at the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden.

Same procedure as every year? Last year, the KWPN stallion Roman Empire by Romanov Blue Hors-Sir Sinclair (breeder: Stal Zogland, owner: Rom Vermunt, Stephanie Scheerder), a full brother to two-time World Champion Red Viper, advanced to the final round as the winner of the small final. He and his rider, Bart Veeze, repeated that feat this year as well. With a score of 86.20 percent, the long-legged bay won the small final. The individual scores: 8.8 for trot, 8.6 for walk and canter, 8.2 for responsiveness, and 8.9 for prospects. On the wish list: a more open jaw angle.

Second place, with a score of 84.8 percent, went to the beautiful Swedish stallion Sundown by Suarez-Bellagio (breeders: Per Grönkvist, Johann Svensson; owner: Christinelund Dressage), ridden by Sophie Lexner. Sundown’s walk is limited (7.5). But otherwise, he has it all: trot 8.8, canter 8.5, responsiveness 8.8, potential 8.8.

Number three among the alternates for Saturday’s final is the KWPN stallion Pina Colada by Toto Jr.-Dayano (breeder: J. Mol), who shares the same owners as Roman Empire but is being presented not by Veeze but by Kirsten Brouwer; today he scored 82 percent (trot 8.2, walk 8.8, canter 8.0, responsiveness 7.5, potential 8.5).

Fifth and sixth place go to Germany

From Germany, reservist Bonbonito, ridden by Sofie Stollberger, would have had a chance to advance to the final today. Bonbonito stepped in for DSP Valentin and Johanna Wadenspanner, who had to withdraw from the competition. However, both this Hanoverian gelding by Belissimo M-Herbstkönig (breeder: Zuchtbetrieb Brech, owner: Linda Zschocke) and Gina Extra on her home-bred Westphalian Sauschön E NRW by Secret-Flanagan missed this opportunity. Bonbonito placed fifth with 78.8 percent. Sauschön E NRW followed closely behind with 78.4 percent.
