Friday's highlights at the World Cup tournament in Bordeaux
Bordeaux: Pauline Basquin wins freestyle, Deußer and Jung in top form

Photo: Archiv sportfotos-lafrentz.de Yesterday in the freestyle, France’s Olympic pair Pauline Basquin and her 16-year-old Sandro Hit son Sertorius de Rima Z took second place after failing in both changes. Today, all the judges had them in first place and they were able to score points with beautiful traversals and energetic and accentuated passages that bounce off the ground. The freestyle was underscored with new music that was composed especially for the pair and suits them better than the previous one. 80.465 percent was the reward from the judges.
They beat the Portuguese Maria Caetano’s 14-year-old half-Lusitano Hit Plus. The talented black stallion looks more like his sire Bretton Woods than his Lusitano dam and is a good example of how such a pairing can work well. The judges gave them 77.530 percent today, which is the third-best result the pair have achieved in their six-year Grand Prix career.
Third place went to the Brazilian João Victor Marcari Oliva on the Westphalian Franziskus son Feel Good VO NRW. The score here was 76.90 percent.
Deußer second, Jung twice in front
After his outstanding performances in recent weeks – including sixth place in the World Cup jumping competition in Leipzig – Michael Jung and his nine-year-old Zangersheide gelding Fischerheros Z were appointed to the show jumping squad. Today the pair showed once again that this was a good decision by the DOKR Jumping Committee. With a speedy clear round, they took tenth place in the qualifier for the World Cup jumping competition in Bordeaux.
The winners of the competition were the defending World Cup champions and newly crowned Amsterdam winners, Julien Epaillard, and his star in the stable, Donatello d’Auge. They were the fastest with a time of 57 seconds. However, there was no small world between them and the rest of the field, as Daniel Deußer and Bingo Ste Hermelle were hot on their heels in 57.46 seconds.
There was another ribbon in one of the fringe competitions with the nine-year-old Epleaser daughter Eclaire Z, with whom Jung had just finished eighth in the Grand Prix in Lode. Today he finished fourth after a ride that would also have deserved the style prize.
