Young Breeders’ World Championships 2026 in Celle
Pre-sampling is the supreme discipline of every young breeder competition. Photo: Archive deutsche-jungzuechter.de In 2026, Germany will host the World Championships for Young Breeders, more precisely the Celle State Stud, which will welcome the best young horse experts in the world to the 12th International Young Breeders World Championships from July 16 to 19. And with great anticipation, as State Stable Master Dr. Axel Brockmann says:
“I am delighted to be taking on the role of host for this World Championships. The work of young breeders is an essential building block for the sustainable development of horse breeding. At the same time, the event offers an excellent platform to present the quality of German horse breeding internationally.”
Young horse experts from all over the world
This World Championships will definitely be international and broad-based. 20 breeding associations from ten nations have announced their participation and are sending 35 teams with 137 participants aged up to 25 years. Specifically, teams from breeding associations from Belgium, Denmark, France, Ireland, Canada, Latvia, the Netherlands, Austria and Sweden will be taking part, as well as the German breeding associations of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin-Brandenburg, Hanover, Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Oldenburg, Rhineland, Rhineland-Palatinate-Saar, Saxony-Thuringia and Trakehner.
They will compete in theory and practice. A young breeder competition consists of a theory test, in which knowledge about horse keeping, breeding and handling is tested, as well as a wide-ranging practical part. Here, the young horse experts have to prove themselves in conformation assessment, grading basic gaits and free jumping as well as the supreme discipline, pre-sampling.
Thankfully, horse owners from the region are providing around 40 horses for the practical part.
Supporting program
When so many young horse enthusiasts come together, it’s not just about competition. A Young Breeders’ World Championships is like a big class reunion where, despite all the ambition, the fun must not be neglected. A get-together evening is planned for Thursday. On Friday, the big anniversary celebration “25 years of young breeders” is on the agenda and on Saturday, the world champions are not only crowned, but also celebrated.
However, the focus is on the horses, and not just those that will be judged at the WEG. On the Sunday of the WEG, excursions are offered to Famos Stud in Syke and Hof Brüning in Ochtmannien.
