The winning mares at the Westfälisches Pferdestammbuch e.V. Elite Show are descended from Maxim and Mylord Carthago

Among the mares bred with an emphasis on dressage, the elegantly presented black-brown Moon River came out on top. This mare, known for her powerful movement, is a great-granddaughter of Totilas through her sire, Maxim. She demonstrated her qualities under saddle not only during her mare performance test—where she shone with a dressage score of 9.0 and received an overall score of 8.56—but also in the qualifier for the Westphalian Championship for three-year-olds, which she also won convincingly.

Moon River is, on both her dam’s and sire’s sides, a true product of Gestüt Gut Neuenhof KG, where she was born. Her sire, Maxim by Toto Jr., serves as a stud there. Her dam, Europa, is a daughter of Gut Neuenhof’s flagship stallion, Escolar. The pedigree continues with Whoopy Goldberg by San Remo-Jazz, who in turn is the dam of Goldberg, the reserve champion of the 2013 Westphalian Main Licensing. He began his stud career at the Gut Neuenhof stud farm, was trained by Hubertus Schmidt up to the highest level, and is now shown in competition by Sophie Luisa Duen, while her mother, Danica Duen, rides Moon River.

Four reserve champions

As was the case in the main classes, three mares tied for the title of 2nd Reserve Champion in Westphalia. However, only one took the silver medal: Fiora by Fürst Toto-Escolar, bred by Hendrik and Niklas Schulte-Märter, who presented the mare together with Arndt Schwierking in Münster-Handorf. In recent years, a whole series of approved stallions by various sires have emerged from her direct maternal line.

Among the three reserve champions was the mare that had posted the best performance test of the year: Penny Lane by Santos-Desperados from the successful breeding program of Christine Arns-Krogmann—though not from the Weihegold line, but rather from the line that also produced, among others, the Bundeschampionat finalist Pommery Look. Penny Lane received a solid 9.4 for her dressage talent in her performance test, including a 10.0 from the guest riders.

At the same show, the judging panel also placed Farbenspiel by For Romance I-Dancier (breeder and owner: Bernhard Deitert) and Virtuose by Von und Zu-Dancier, bred by Monika Rösemeier-Harms and exhibited by Thomas Berger.

Mylord Carthago sends his regards

The winning mare in the show jumping talent class has a fitting name: My Dream by Mylord Carthago-À la Carte NRW-Levisto. Heinrich and Philipp Sterthoff from Hamm are not only the ones who gave her her name, but also the breeders of this elegant gray mare, who received a jumping score of 8.7 at her mare performance test and was also recognized for her dressage talent (8.2). The bloodline has produced various licensed stallions, such as the full brother of the mare’s grandmother named Laspari, as well as very good sport horses like Kira Bell by Kolibri, ridden by Maurice Tebbel.

The reserve champion of the jumping mares is named Enjoy B, a daughter of Etoulon out of a Calinello dam, bred and owned by Heinrich Wilhelm Baack in Dortmund. Enjoy B scored an 8.2 in the mare performance test and an 8.55 in jumping. Her direct maternal line includes, among others, the licensed stallion Calvino, Quite Nice (owned by Alexander Kern), and Cypria (owned by Inga Czwalina).

The title of 2nd Reserve Champion was shared by Krispy by Carell-Comilfo Plus Z (breeder and owner: Heiner Rohmann) and Jolie by Jasper-Cornet Obolensky (breeder and owner: Mathias Fendrich).
