Almost 80 percent of the candidates in the dressage lot at the 35th Mecklenburg licensing in Redefin were licensed, and just under 71 percent of the show jumping stallions. Of the dressage stallions, the only son of the 2024 World Dressage Horse Champion runner-up, Glamdale, was singled out as the winning stallion. The OS stallion Conthargos, who died at an early age, dominated the show jumping field.

There were personnel changes in the Mecklenburg licensing commission this year. Dr. Thomas Nissen, the former breeding director of the Holsteiner Verband, was a member for the first time. He judged the young stallions together with Jörg Kotenbeutel, Armin Spierling, show jumper Thomas Kleis and dressage rider Ronald Lüders.

Champion stallion by Glamdale

The commission was generous in its selection. 27 out of 35 candidates in the dressage lot were given the go-ahead for breeding, twelve of them also received a premium.

The committee chose an Oldenburg son of Glamdale, who is presenting his first licensing year, as the winning stallion. Glamdale works at the Rüscher-Konermann station and is himself a son of Charlotte Fry’s world champion Glamourdale out of a full sister to the Bonhomme stallion Maracanà. Glamdale won bronze at the Bundeschampionat and was Vice World Champion for young dressage horses.

And now Glamdale can point directly to a winning stallion from his first crop. His son presented himself masculine and noble. In this respect, he is similar to his sire, whom breeder Lothar Ackermann selected for his Filia Aurica by Foundation-Donnerhall-Argentan, who is successful up to medium (M) level. The result, who has now been crowned Mecklenburg Champion Stallion, is jointly owned by Schockemöhle Hengsthaltung GmbH and Morningstar GmbH & Co KG and was not for sale.

The reserve winners

The first reserve winner also belongs to the Schockemöhle stallion farm. It was the only Dynamic Dream son of the lot, a Hanoverian out of a Dancier-Worldly-Wendenburg dam, who was born at Carolin Kapp in Clüversborstel.

The second reserve winner was bred by Volker Kückelhaus, whose horse breeding also exhibited him. The sire of this large-lined chestnut is the Schockemöhle stallion Total Diamond PS, who was bred to a Fürst Wilhelm-Ehrentusch-Rivellino xx dam.

The youngster was for sale and fetched the top price of 130,000 euros in the subsequent online auction. After a bidding duel between customers from Austria and Switzerland, the latter ultimately won the bid. Behind the Swiss flag is the Schönweide estate, which has secured the Totilas blood for its stallion station in Schleswig-Holstein. The chestnut already has a name: T-Roc.

Premium plumb bob with PS

For the horses from Paul Schockemöhle’s Lewitz stud, Redefin, which is only around 30 minutes away, is more or less a court licensing. Accordingly, many Lewitz-bred horses are regularly represented there. This year, eleven stallions in the dressage collection were Lewitz-bred, three of the show jumping stallions. Of the other nine premium dressage stallions, five had sires belonging to the Schockemöhle station in Mühlen.

These included the two sons of Bundeschampion Escanto PS, both of whom were bred in Lewitz. One of them was out of the Secret daughter Secret Zone PS, whose dam Zantana by Zonik-Sir Donnerhall competed for the Netherlands at the European Championships in Crozet with Marieke van der Putten and is a half-sister to Total U.S.. This Zantana also produced the licensed Fürst Zonik PS and Debütant PS.

The second premium stallion by Escanto PS was also born in Lewitz and has a Vitalis-Hotline-Classiker dam. Bianca Kasselmann’s dressage horse Weltclassiker is one of the offspring of this line.

Star sire Vitalis also produced a premium stallion, an Oldenburg out of a For Romance-Lauries Crusador xx-World Cup I dam, who was born at Beate and Berthold Schmidt in Herleshausen and presented by Heinrich Ramsbrock in Redefin. Wolfgang Schmitz-Heinen’s Grand Prix horse Gucci and numerous licensed stallions are among the offspring of this line.

The ten-year-old Fürst Toto produced an offspring who was also among the premium stallions. Like his sire, he was also born in Lewitz. The dam Charming Girl PS by Charmeur-Sandro Hit comes from the same dam line as the award-winning Escanto PS-Vitalis son, the Hanoverian line of Dodo.

Totilas once appeared as the direct sire of a young stallion. This was awarded a premium and was therefore the number six with a sash for Gestüt Lewitz, paired with the Morricone daughter My Diva PS, who already has several licensed stallions to her name and is out of the Bundeschampioness Special Diva by Sir Donnerhall-Diamond Hit. Sir Donnerhall-Diamond Hit.

Premium stallion number seven for the Lewitz was a son of the Bavarian station Wadenspanner’s figurehead, Va Bene. The dam of the elegant Oldenburg youngster, Fine Gesina PS by Foundation, is a daughter of Gesina, who also produced the S***-successful star sire For Romance, the Bundeschampioness Fasine, champion stallion Feinrich, the Oldenburg champion mare Fürstin Gesine and others.

Premium lot without PS

Matthias Alexander Rath’s 2023 European Championship partner, Thiago, can now also point to an award-winning offspring. He was bred to the Rassolini-Benvenuto-Rubinstein daughter Rico’s Deneres, for whom Rico Sahlke was responsible. The Hanoverian chestnut was exhibited by Dressage Horses – Christian Heinrich GmbH. The youngster went for 39,500 euros at the online auction.

Fynch Hatton produced two offspring for the Mecklenburg licensing lot, both were licensed and one was awarded a premium. The latter was out of the Westphalian mare Reidun, who has a Trakehner pedigree (Millennium-Cadeau-Benz) and comes from the thoroughbred family that produced important stallions such as Windeis xx, Borzoi xx, Galahad xx and Mordskerl xx. This premium stallion was born to Hedda Ottmann-Droege and was also exhibited by Heinrich Ramsbrock.

The Oldenburg Morricone I son McLaren, based at the Reesink station, also produced a premium stallion, an Oldenburg out of a Bordeaux-Di Versace-Figaro dam, who was born in the Netherlands and was exhibited in Redefin by the Teichert owners’ association from Wildeshausen. The Vitalis son Veneno from the Schult stallion station is also from this line. Six interested parties placed 16 bids until the hammer fell at 27,000 euros.

The jumping lot: Stamp stallion Conthargos

Of the 24 jumping stallions, 17 were licensed and seven were awarded prizes. The defining sire of the lot was Conthargos, also a Schockemöhle stallion, who died in 2023. He produced the Champion Stallion, the 1st Reserve Champion Stallion and was also the dam’s sire of the 2nd Reserve Champion Stallion.

This is a reminder of how great the loss was when Conthargos had to be put down at the age of 19 due to laminitis. The Converter offspring currently has almost 40 children who are competing at the highest level in show jumping. There are also 78 licensed sons. And as we saw in Redefin: There are still more to come.

The licensing committee named a bay stallion out of a Lordanos-Quattro B dam as the winning stallion. Cinzia Beyer from Switzerland is the breeder of the OS youngster. He was exhibited by Esselin Sporthorses in Lastrup. Simone Böckmann’s successful horse Bantu, for example, comes from this line. The stallion was for sale and, according to the auction platform, cost 27,000 euros. His whereabouts are listed as Switzerland.

The reserve winners

The reserve winner was a youngster who already has a name: Conthalou de Zélande Z by Conthargos-Balou du Rouet-Kannan. The colorful chestnut was born in the Netherlands and is at home at the Tebbel stallion station. The dam line promises a lot for the future. It is one of the most successful show jumping lines in Belgium, the BWP-Prestatiestam 34, which has produced class horses such as Toupie de la Roque (Pieter Devos) as well as breeding and sport greats such as Kasanova de la Pomme for Belgium and Million Dollar for Holstein.

The second reserve winner comes from the Lewitz breed and combines Conthargos on the dam’s side with another deceased successful Schockemöhle jumping sire on the sire’s side: Chacoon Blue. The dam Conthina was herself successful in sport with Patrick Stühlmeyer. Her pedigree includes Armitage and Baloubet du Rouet. The original Holstein line also produced the star sire Calido and, more recently, the successful Chaccothage Blue PS and Chaccothargos PS with Philip Rüping and Patrick Stühlmeyer.

None of the reserve winners were for sale.

Premium stallions jumping

The four prize-winning show jumping stallions were sired by Congress, Maverik Z, Emerald van’t Ruytershof and Valensky.

The Congress son is a Mecklenburger and was bred by Mathias Wandschneider in Lützow. The exhibitor was BG Lützow & Maack. The dam Barcelone is a Brantzau-Catoki-Landgraf daughter. The Landgraf mare has produced several successful advanced (S) level show jumpers.

The Maverik Z son, bred and owned by Schmidt & Schmidt GbR in Werder, is also registered as a Mecklenburg stallion. The dam Columbine by Cellestial-Capriol-Mistral II is the full sister of the S-successful, licensed Cucaracha and the Mecklenburg champion mare Clementine.

Three world-class stallions in a row can be found in the pedigree of premium stallion number three: Emerald van’t Ruytershof-Uricas van de Kattevennen-Comme il faut. The Zangersheide chestnut was bred in the Netherlands and exhibited by Zuchthof Tebbel in Emsbüren. The granddam Colibelle Hero Z is herself successful at five-star level with Darragh Kenny (IRL). Stallions from the Dutch line 260 include Gerco Schröders London, Mumbai, Picobello van’t Roosakker and others.

Last but not least, the Hanoverian Viko by Valensky-Qualito-Iberio-Foxhunter, bred by ZG Deegen, received a premium. Alongside the champion stallion, he was the only sash bearer in the jumping section to be sold at the auction. The hammer price here is listed at 22,500 euros.
