It seemed like just about everyone competing in eventing in Germany was riding at the October Festival in Strzegom. The Germans didn’t just dominate the entry-level classes. They also secured many podium finishes in the three- and four-star-level classes. And three victories thanks to Ingrid Klimke, Heike Jahncke, and Iliana Hannalisa Hein.

With a dressage score of 29.3 penalty points, Ingrid Klimke, riding the Hanoverian mare Candy, completed the CCI3*-L at the October Festival in Strzegom, Poland. No other competitor achieved this. This secured the victory for the Carridam daughter. Second and third place in this class also went to German riders. Riding the Hanoverian mare Viva L’Amour, Nadine Marzahl took second place. After a dressage score of 29.5 penalty points, she incurred just 1.2 additional penalty points for exceeding the time limit by three seconds in the cross-country. The Valentino daughter then rode a clear round in the show jumping course. Her final score was 30.7, securing second place.

With 31.5 penalty points—his dressage score—Calvin Böckmann and Bubine P finished this competition in third place. Julia Krajewski and Intouchable Tonic (34.5/4th), Arne Bergendahl/Call me Pucky (35.8/5th), Sven Lux/MBF Senorita (36.2/6th), and once again Nadine Mahlzahl with Cheeky Papellita (37.3/7th), this competition was firmly in German hands.

Young Riders Follow the Example of the “Seniors”

There was also a victory for the young riders. In the Young Riders category, Iliane Hannalisa Hein from Schleswig-Holstein held on to her lead after the dressage and jumping rounds, riding Akeby’s Quemiro Silla to the finish (32.2). Second place went to Julie Geurts from Belgium. They were followed by three young men from Germany: Matthies Rüder/Leila (36.8), Neel Friedrich Dehn/Nofretete (40.5), and Lukas Görtz/Mon Ami Brillante (42.3).

First through third places in the CCI4*-S went to Team Germany

The CCI4*-S featured an all-German podium. Heike Jahncke, who was still in fourth place after the dressage and jumping with Mighty Spring, went on to win the competition. The 16-year-old daughter of Mighty Magic added eight time penalty points to her score in the cross-country and finished the competition with 41.1 penalty points.

Second place went to the island of Fehmarn. Mathies Rüder scored 46.2 penalty points with Hjoptimus. The Swedish gelding by Carambole, who had just turned eight, remained clear in the jumping: However, 14.8 penalty points—resulting from Rüder’s cross-country round—had to be added to his dressage score of 31.4 negative points. Katharina Dannenmann took third place with Genesis de Cordel. The ten-year-old French stallion finished with 50.8 points.

Tom McEwen Takes the CCI4*-L Title with Ease

In the long four-star competition, Tom McEwen, the British silver medalist at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, was able to secure his comfortable lead after the dressage and jumping phases. Although Brookfield Future News, an 11-year-old gelding bred in Ireland, had one knockdown, But with 35 penalty points, McEwen was still well ahead of Ben Leuwer, who, riding Zuccini, had only one time penalty in the jumping course. Ultimately, the nine-year-old Holsteiner by Zuccero finished with 44.2 penalty points in this long class. Third place in this class also went to Germany. Nicolai Aldinger and Palm Beach—a 15-year-old by Palmares bred in Saxony-Thuringia—had two knockdowns in the course, so the pair from Luhmühlen finished the class in Strzegom with 54.1 penalty points.
