18-year-old Sina Brügger wins the National Championship for 6-year-old eventing horses on the Westphalian Hallox after a video review

Just 18 years old and already a National Champion! Sina Brügger, who will turn 19 at the end of the year, has already won the European Team Championship in pony eventing and also has a silver medal from a European Championship at home. Now she can add to her collection a sash she won with Hallox at the National Championship for six-year-old eventing horses. Video evidence dashed the favorites’ hopes.
Hallox, a Westphalian by Hickstead Blue out of a Cornet Fever dam, was born at Norbert Heubrock’s farm. Riding him, Sina Brügger led the field on the dark gray horse with a more than commanding lead of a full (!) score. Twelve horses had qualified for the final; seven merely completed the test. The judging panel awarded Hallox a 9.0 in the categories of canter, jumping (multiplier 2), and rideability. For overall impression, he even received a 9.5. That added up to a total of 9.1 points and the title.
“A Stable Body”
The judges’ comments noted that Hallox was a “very interesting eventing horse, always maintaining a stable posture.” The fact that the gelding had come quite close to the jumps on the cross-country course on several occasions was also factored into the score. It had been “a bit tight two or three times on the course,” but “the horse handled it well thanks to his stable body control.”
Clarimo Festival
Luci, bred by Max Herrmann Johannsen—a daughter of Clarimo out of a Lord Z dam—finished in second place with a score of 8.1. The Holsteiner Clarimo enjoyed a successful Bundeschampionat with his offspring. He sired the National Champion of Seven-Year-Old Show Jumping Horses, Clarimero as well as, among the five-year-old eventing horses, the one by Carbolin, presented by Julia Krajewski, which also made it onto the podium. Luci was presented by Carlota Jade Korang Seitz. The scores: 8/8.5/7.5/8.0, resulting in a final score of 8.1. Just one-tenth of a point behind was Equitech’s Diacello, bred by Monika and Carsten Tech—a Hanoverian by Diamant de Plasir out of a Rabino dam. Jandrik, ridden by Markus Tech, advanced to the final. The pair received an 8.0 in all categories—an all-around “good” result—which earned them the bronze medal.
The Conthargos daughter Cinzia C, who was born at the Hertwig Breeding Association and is registered with the Oldenburg International Show Jumping Breeding Association, was presented by Pietro Grandis in Warendorf. She received a similar set of scores to Diacello. Only in jumping did she not receive an 8, but rather a 7.5, so the mare finished in fourth place with a 7.8. She tied for fourth with the Holsteiner gelding Djogi, a son of Diego de Semilly out of a Corrado dam bred by Jan Poggendorf. Eric Bramefelt, a Swede competing for the RuFV Großenwiehe, was in the saddle.
Robiné sent off after video review
Things didn’t go so well for one of the top favorite pairs. Jérôme Robiné and the Hanoverian mare Die Elli, who had already made it onto the podium at last year’s Bundeschampionat, put in a convincing round. Rhythmic cantering, good reflexes at the jump, a horse that’s always thinking for itself. Only in the water did the mare seem to think: Why should I jump an obstacle that’s been placed in my path when I can jump right past it on the left? At first, the judges had debated the matter—or rather, they hadn’t recognized the “missed flag,” which was actually quite obvious, as such. However, the horse clearly jumped too far to the left. Only a small part of the right side of her body cleared the obstacle at all, so the Diacontinus-Escudo daughter had to be eliminated after completing the round. Up to that point, she had received three nines—for her canter, rideability, and overall impression.
