A show jumping competition isn’t decided until Richard Vogel has finished the jump-off. “Richie” proved this with Gangster Montdesir in Brussels. His World Championship teammate Daniel Deußer finished third.

Forty-eight pairs competed in the Rolex Grand Prix of Brussels as part of the Stephex Masters. A dozen of them vied for the title in the second round. The winner received an Audi worth 100,000 euros, as well as an additional 50,000 euros in prize money—essentially gas money.

Two Germans made it to the final twelve: Richard Vogel and Daniel Deußer. For the latter, the tournament in Brussels is a home game. His sponsor, Stephan Conter—or rather, the company Stephex—is the title sponsor.

A Gangster, a Vogel, an Audi

Richard Vogel and Gangster Montdesir had qualified with a clear round, while Daniel Deußer and Pepita van’t Meulenho posted the fastest ride with four penalties (0/32.34). Besides Vogel, only the Brazilian Eduardo Pereira de Menezes and H5 Londontime managed a second clear round in the jump-off (42.85). Daniel Deußer and Pepita, on the other hand, kept clear of the top rails. Combining the results of the two rounds, this placed them third—a finish that still came with a prize of 75,000 euros.

Kendra Claricia Brinkop and Replay Van’t Paradijs, as well as Christian Ahlmann and Sheeran, each had one knockdown, so they were unable to stay in the lead.
