Due to the expected heat tomorrow, Friday—with temperatures expected to reach 36 degrees—the schedule for the Grand Prix Special has been moved up. The first pair will enter the arena as early as 8:30 a.m. Katharina Hemmer is the last rider to start at 4:39 p.m. Here’s a look at the other competitors and their start times.

Thirty pairs have qualified for the Grand Prix Special at the World Dressage Championships in Aachen. Representatives from 15 nations will compete in this first individual event. Germany and Denmark are each represented by four pairs, while fans from Great Britain and Sweden will have three pairs to root for.


Heat Forces New Start Times for the Aachen World Championships Grand Prix Special


Because the temperature is expected to rise to 36 degrees, the organizing committee has decided to start the Grand Prix Special earlier than planned. The first rider is expected in the stadium as early as 8:30 a.m. That will be Austria’s Felicita Simoncic riding Four Legends. The lunch break will be extended.

The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) has issued a statement noting that additional heat safety measures are in effect throughout the entire venue. Stadium announcements are already advising spectators to drink plenty of fluids and protect themselves from the sun.
