Marco Pundsack replaces Dr. Wolfgang Schulze-Schleppinghoff as head of the board of the Oldenburg Horse Breeders' Association

On Monday, August 3, the Oldenburg Horse Breeders’ Association convened its delegates’ meeting. It was an important event, as new elections were on the agenda. After five years at the helm of the OL, Dr. Wolfgang Schulze-Schleppinghoff stepped down from his position. In the election for his successor, the majority of delegates voted for his former vice president, Marco Pundsack. He is the new president of the Oldenburg Horse Breeding Association.

Marco Pundsack has been a member of the board of the Oldenburg Horse Breeding Association since 2017. The name Pundsack is also known, among other things, in connection with the former Bundeschampion, Burg Cup winner, and later multiple medalist Flamboyant, who was trained in his younger years by Marco Pundsack and his wife Marita—who, among other achievements, guided him to the title of Bundeschampion—before he moved to the saddle of Isabell Werth and later Luca Sophia Collin. When Dr. Wolfgang Schulze-Schleppinghoff became chairman in 2021, Marco Pundsack was promoted to vice chairman. Now that he is at the helm of the association, Clemens Graf von Merveldt—another dedicated board member who is also a highly successful breeder—is taking his former position as vice president.

The delegates elected Merle von Wedel to fill the vacancy that has now opened up on the board. She has had close ties to the Oldenburg Association since her days as a young breeder and now runs her own breeding program with her husband, Maximilian von Wedel. Thanks to her professional background—she recently completed her doctorate in business administration at the University of St. Gallen and works as a consultant on international strategy issues—she has already supported the Oldenburg Association in recent years in advancing its digitalization efforts and developing event and marketing strategies.

Dr. Wolfgang Schulze-Schleppinghoff has led the Oldenburg Horse Breeding Association since 2021. During his tenure, numerous initiatives were launched and important decisions were made regarding the association’s future. The board, delegates, and staff thanked him for his great personal commitment, his foresight, and his tireless dedication to Oldenburg horse breeding.
