Who will represent the Paris Olympic champions at the 2026 World Championships in Aachen? This question is of interest not only to British show jumping fans but also to the competition. Here are the candidates.

The British Federation has nominated 15 show jumpers for the World Championships in Aachen, which means the team for the World Championships must be selected from among these riders. Also included is the legendary trio that won gold at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris: Scott Brash, Harry Charles, and Ben Maher.

The British World Cup contenders, in alphabetical order:

  • Scott Brash (40) with European Championship double silver medalist Hello Folie (an 11-year-old Selle Français mare by Luidam-Diamant de Semilly, breeder: Claire Gouin, FRA), Olympic team champion Hello Jefferson (a 17-year-old BWP gelding by Cooper van de Heffinck-Irco Mena, breeder: Bernard Mols) and Hello Mango ( an 11-year-old KWPN mare by Untouchable-Numero Uno, breeder: H. P. H. Vaessen)

  • Harry Charles (26) with his new addition and Nations Cup winner LT Holst Freda (a 12-year-old mare bred in New Zealand, daughter of Colman-Casall Ask; breeder: E. Mackintosh NZL)

  • Sienna Charles (23) with Chawton (a 12-year-old AES stallion by Typhoon S-Caletto II, homebred) > For Harry’s younger sister, Aachen would mark her championship debut in the senior division. She made a strong impression in Rotterdam.

  • Tim Gredley (40) with Medoc de Toxandria (a 14-year-old BWP gelding by Der Senaat III-Kelvin De Sainte Hermelle, bred by: Werner Dierckx) > Gredley was already a member of the British team in Aachen 20 years ago and competed with Medoc de Toxandria at the 2023 European Championships

  • Jodie Hall McAteer (26) riding La Gupardie (a 10-year-old KWPN mare by Van Gogh-Carrera VDL, bred by: F. Van De Linden) > —it would be the first championship for both of them; they made the list thanks in part to their recent fifth-place finish in the Grand Prix at the Nations Cup tournament in Sopot, where they were also part of the team

  • Ben Maher (43) riding Marco Kutscher’s former top horse Catelly (a 14-year-old Holsteiner gelding by Catalido-Ephebe For Ever La Silla, bred by Wulf-Hinrich Hamann), Enjeu de Grisien (a 12-year-old Selle Français gelding by Toulon out of Andiamo, bred by: Elevage de Grisien) and Point Break (a 12-year-old Swedish stallion by Action-Breaker-Baloubet du Rouet, breeder: Nya Äppelvikens Ridskola AB)

  • Jessica Mendoza (30) with Summerhouse (an 11-year-old KWPN gelding by Guidam Sohn-VDL Indoctro, bred by: C. Den Boer, NED) > Mendoza had delivered impressive rounds as an individual rider at the 2025 European Championships, finishing in tenth place. However, that was on In the Air. Riding the nominated Summerhouse, she was part of the winning team at the League of Nations event in Rotterdam, though she had eight faults in the first round.

  • Matthew Sampson (35) riding Un Secreto Z (an 11-year-old Zangersheider stallion by Ultra Boy-Arko III, bred by: Finca Horses B.V. • Jack Whitaker (24) with Jack JL (a 12-year-old KWPN stallion by Quasimodo out of Astrello, bred by: J. E. Lammerts-Weide) >, the son of Michael Whitaker, placed fifth in the 2022 World Cup Final in Leipzig and has won two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals at European Junior Championships. Otherwise, Aachen would mark his championship debut. Riding Jack JL, he was a member of the Nations Cup teams in Ocala and Rome this year.
