Fontainbleau was not the only Nations Cup venue in France this weekend. In Compiègne, the young show jumpers met for the international competition followed by the Grand Prix. There were a few more ribbons for Germany.

After the juniors won their Nations Cup on Friday and the young riders also came second, the ribbons in yesterday’s Grand Prix rounded off a successful weekend for the young German show jumpers. At least in part.

Fabio Thielen best young rider

Successful debut in the young rider camp for Fabio Thielen! He celebrates his 19th birthday in mid-June. In 2021, he represented the German colors for the first time at a European Championship, back then still in the Children. In recent years, he has been a safe bet in the juniors. This weekend, he demonstrated that he can also hold his own one hole higher. First, he contributed to the second place of the German U21 Nations Cup team with Clarino de Luxe (in round two, however, with a score of eight faults), then yesterday he was the best German in the Grand Prix in fifth place. Here, too, he rode the Holstein Clarimo son Clarino de Luxe, who set the second-fastest time of 38.25 seconds but had one fault.

Victory went to Belgian rider Lauranne Spits, the younger sister (20) of European team champion Thibeau Spits. With the eleven-year-old Holstein Livello daughter Lylith, she was not only the fastest without a knockdown, but also had the fastest time of all participants in the jump-off with 37.85 seconds.

Juniors – second, third and fourth place for Germany

While Fabio Thielen was the only German in the money in the young riders’ class, three U18 talents placed top in the juniors’ class, all with two clear rounds. Leading the way was Ava Ferch on Tendresse de la Vie Z, who finished second in 39.42 seconds. Next in line was Hannah Blandfort in the saddle on Tara Levista (39.65), followed by Brianne Beerbaum and her est eight-year-old Westphalian mare Big Dream by Big Star (40.07).

Only Belgian rider Seppe Wouters, who also won a CSI3* Grand Prix at the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour in Oliva Nova at the beginning of February, was faster than these three. In Compiègne, the 18-year-old had saddled up the Lector vd Bisschop-daughter Libelle Asborne Z, another eight-year-old mare, which he rode to victory in a commanding 37.83 seconds.

Frieda Louise Riedel top in the children’s category

After things had gone so well for Germany in the Nations Cups for juniors and young riders, the pony riders and children were unable to build on their success on Saturday. The pony riders were eliminated in the first round. The children came sixth out of the nine teams. There was one pair in the team that completed two clear rounds: Frieda Louise Riedel and Ego DK Z.

And so it continued the following day for the talented rider from the Berlin Brandenburg State Association with his twelve-year-old Erco van’t Roosakker son. The pair were also double clear in the Grand Prix and their time in the jump-off was enough for fifth place.

Also placed with two clear rounds: Bellaluna Marie Resnick, not with Nations Cup partner Big Centaire, but with the ten-year-old Vagabond de la Pomme daughter Velvety S. They finished eleventh.

Victory in the Children’s Grand Prix went to the Spaniard Javier Catalán Conde on Coco Star de Gy.

Ponies

Frieda Louise Riedel was the only German participant in the pony Grand Prix with Leo and had 16 penalty points in the normal course. The winner here was Great Britain’s Sophia Rogers on Neil, the pair that had also helped the British to team victory at the respective European Championships in the past two years.
